sooo.. in my city we have this event called hot august nights, its basically vintage car event that come to town and help bring tourist to town.

the problem in my city is the guy who sets the event is planning to not renew his contract with the casinos and various businesses since he has gotten a better offer in another city in california.

our city has bn trying to hold a meeting with him and have bn nagging him to accept and come to the meetings.

he has done his best not to respond but no matter where he goes and who he is talking to on the news or other public event.. ppl seem to show up and corner him into admitting that he has turn down meeting request. he finally accepted to go and hear them out b/c he was asked on tv while talking to news reporters..

my problem is that city officials have asked to see his contract with the various casinos and businesses which he said no. now the city have threaten to get a subpoena to get to see his contract. he has stated that his contract have confidentiality clause and it is between non city officials..

do you guys think the city has the right to see a contracts between non government officials?

it has the right to subpoena them, especially if it relates to ongoing negotiations, but a judge will quash the subpoena if it is covered by confidentally. if anything, the city is jumping through it's own legal hoops.

my problem what business is it of the city's.. i mean its not like they have paid for the event themselves and if they want his services they should pay and make a bid. i think they are abusing their city authority to circumvent certain business edicate.

i hate for them to go but i hate any form of government making it its business

Reno is grabbing at straws, It's a dying town desperately trying to hold on to any form of commerce it can. I lived in Reno in the early 90s and remember the event to which you are referring. Back then the casinos didn't really like it as the rooms filled up with car buffs and not gamblers. It goes to show how far Reno has declined that they would do something this desperate.

yea I think they do.Where I live we have an event called Music Fest where it gets alot of tourest too and there is always trouble there thanks to all the drinking that goes on.But it is still fun to go too and it is for two weeks.
It also shows how very boring this state really is.
