In the foreseeable future (5 - 50 yrs), do you think The US will be fine, compromised significantly in some way by foreign power(s), or even conquered? I know the last one seems rather ridiculous, but I just wanna know what you think, considering the hate certain countries have for America and the seemingly apparent prepations of force some countries have been displaying.

Bardock42
I don't think they will be compromised militarily, they will however lose a lot of their economic status. And will likely become more of an equal player. Probably with China, India, the EU, maybe Brazil.

what nation is beefing up its military might for, ostensibly, an invasion of North America?

Canada; don't try and deny it.

We own more North America than the rest of you guys combined.

Besides, I think we have a chance. Shit, you would never see it coming. I bet it would be 2 days at least before you stopped laughing at the headlines and took it seriously, in that time, we burn down the white house again.

Symmetric Chaos
The US will be conquered by the collectivists/facists/libertarians/conservatives/liberals/jews/muslims and the resulting war against them by the true Americans will tragically fracture the nation into a dozen smaller countries.

Or maybe the country just won't recover entirely from this depression and will end American economic predominance in the world. People will cry that it is the end of America but it won't be.

External conquest seems vanishingly unlikely. America is geographically huge, posseses a large up to date military and has plenty of allies.

inimalist
I know I make the joke about Canada being unconquorable because of geography alone, but that almost certainly applies to America too.

Hell, even their major cities... who would possibly think they could occupy New York City? the NYPD barely have control there.

The Dark Cloud
In the future, the nation stste will cease to exist to be replaced by economic blocs controlled by large nationless corporations.

You forgot the possibility that the USA might rot from withing ie raped by the banks and turned into a police state to control the angry masses.

Your continued misuse of the term libertarian confuses me.

I meant to quote the one who said we would be ruled by the corporations.

Of course you could have a libertarian police state. Crushing the freedoms of the masses doesn't restrict my freedoms. Individual good over the collectivist good and all.

Nah, America would just cancel the, NHL and then invade Canada while you canucks are still crying.

there would be a worldwide nuclear holocaust before America would ever be conquered and although the country is still reletivaly safe i whole heartedly believe that our soverignty has been comprimised. The USA is a country in turmoil at the moment. when considering that our elected leaders don't seem to want an America based on a free republic, there is no guessing what this country may evolve into over the next couple of decades.

In 5-50 years Europe will be a socialist Super State.

No problem...we'll do business with them. More capital for the US.

UK will be centrist and most likely separate from the European Super State.

No problem...we'll do business with them. More capital for the US.

China...still communist.

No problem...we'll do business with them. More capital for the US.

Canada...Hahaha!! what a joke. Quebec will get their independence...therefore cripple the buffonery idea of Canada's great economy of the state.

No problem...we'll do business with Le Grande Quebec Nationale and with the defuct Canadian nation. We get two big birds for the price of one. More Capital for the US.

Middle East....eh, too easy...More capital for the US.

Mexico and South America....there will be temp permit work visas for their people...Tripple their economy and US as well. More capital for the US.

And finally but not least...the US.

We go back to Reaganomics and we drive big cars and all the idiocy of the left winger will be forgotten and eventually we move forward.

The great Oracle of WD has spoken. So put me down for very VERY Safe in the poll.

I dunno and don't really care....but I do know Trolls still love to quote me expecting a challenge or something...too bad they don't know I have them in ignore from here to eternity. Sad losers IMO....they just bitter cause I ban them before...they still hold that stick up their ass in a grudge.

Anywhoo....irrelevant and off topic.

But you know? I should have mention California in my prediction...most likely Cali will split into two states. Northern California and Southern California....no state should have this much economic power over others...not fair and balance for the nation.

When you post things like this, you really don't have much place to complain about trolling, because you're doing the exact same thing.

Knock it off. If you have someone on ignore, actually ignore them instead of bringing up that fact and making baiting comments.

lil bitchiness
Well that's difficult to predict, however USA will not be a lone superpower for long. Power is shifting to the east.

Conquered is going a bit too far.

Yeah, that's what I think, too, I don't think there's any reason for a ware between any of the larger powers at the moment. In fact China and western nations work together in many economic ways, as long as there is economic interest in peace on both sides there wouldn't ever be war. One of the many perks of capitalism

Bicnarok
In 50 years the world could be an Islamic state (or Islamic world) if the birth rate of Muslims v others stays the same, religous development ie lots of people turning to Islam etc.

And lets face it that would be bad, not more scantily atired women walking about in summer.

Separatism? don't be afraid to use the word independence here...and what makes you think it's a comeback? when it's always been there...it just doesn't get the hype in the media. But what do I know, right?

You're not taking into account the severe oil and water shortages both the US and China (not to mention other countries) will be facing in the next couple decades. Capitalism is not a cure all.

But capitalism is an effective method for resolving a shortage. When oil starts to seriously run dry entrepreneurs working on alternative energy will pick up the slack. As water supplies get stretched thin someone will invest in finding a way to make desalination cheap.

Of course, I'm not sure how I feel about companies making money off that last bit. Probably not too bad.

If they are successful then more power to them. Whether or not human ingenuity can replace oil and desalinate water cheaply enough and fast enough remains to be seen.
