What's your favorite batman, superman, wolverine, spiderman or thor battle moment (it doesn't have to be these characters if you do not like them).

Example... my favorite moment is when the doomsday clones invaded the amazon island and supes looked around and seen amazons being killed. He then fly up above them and decides to end it with a high beam of heat vision.

Great thread! Lemme think..

Wolverine.. probably his fight with Sabertooth, the one where Logan verbally pwnes him before kicking him off a waterfall. Epic ownage.
Also, since we're talking about moments here, my favorite would be when Logan got captured and in order to escape "convinced" one of the guards to first kill all of the other guards and then to commit suicide. What Wolvie did after that was too badass for words.
Also when he helped Mary Jane get over Spider-man's death. "Wanna go out?" lol

Spider-man.. every time he stops playing around. Owning Kingpin. The recent fight with Kraven, when he kicked his ass. And what he did to Sergey's crazy wife - "My brother wanted to give you this" before leaving "The mark of Kain" on her face.
As for moments, his encounter with Jameson after he revealed his secret id to the world. What he did there at the end was an epic payback.
Also when Spider-man walked into a bar full of supervillains, told them all to STFU, lectured them and walked out several minutes later, and they all were like "Why the F didnt we do anything about it?!"

Deadpool.. his last battle with Black Swan was great. Deadpool was getting torn to pieces, but his plan and the verbal pwnage he delivered were epic.
Also his recent fight with Steve Rogers. Wade took a lot of punishment but it was nice to see him show his psycho-killer nature again.
As for moments, when T-ray rvealed Deadpool's real origin to him. Great scene, and Deadpool's reaction to it - brilliant.

Punisher.. the Kraven's gauntlet.
As for moments, when he poisoned the bar full of supervillains and set them all on fire before slowly walking away.

Joker. No fights, but when he forced Nightwing to beat him to death as a part of his plan.. thumb up

Interesting idea. Off the top of my head when Superman owned the Elite after seemingly getting beaten half to death, the way he dissected the team and then explained to Manchester Black how he did it was bad ass. I can't help but think it was how he was beaten up that made his victory all the sweeter.

Darkseid's speech in Final Crisis # 5, total domination right there.

Iborga owning his 3 greatest enemies by mind over matter, in Godland (Image Comics).

In recent years, while these links last on YouTube, it's gotta be the following from Supergirl ...

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=XmipEsp-ufY

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=F-_fdavPSKA

I don't imagine they'll have the courage to stick with that even a week from now, but the moment after watching the 2nd clip, after watching the 1st, I was floored that the writers would be audacious enough to so directly state the matter.

I have 2 or more serious reservations about Supergirl, but the above was unbelievable.

After having him explain he was at full strength, my favorite comic character moment of this year was Supergirl beating Superman in a slugfest on the CW show. I mentioned that on the previous page, or at least alluded to it. Unfortunately, the links I gave on the previous page have recently been broken.

I have no assurance the same fate won't befall this clip, but, for any who are Supergirl fans, it's worth a moment's viewing time:

I love scenarios that reveal intrinsic heroic character.
Both Rogue and Cyclops shine in the 2nd scene above, Cyclops for his courage and resourcefulness (he had to battle all available X-Men in this story), Rogue for her almost unthinking compassion even for (then) hostile "allies"...

Actually to be honest.

I think my favorite comics moments have been

Superman meet Spiderman on crossover classics
Jla meets x men (crappy fight, but the moment was exiting)
When Superman comes out of the kryptonian battlesuit and reveals he is the real Superman
When Thanos overpowers all the cosmic entities in the IG saga ( I was shocked)
The fight at the end of the dark phoenix saga (because it gave you a sense of despair that everything was lost)and how she died in front of Scott.

I don't remember the exact moment or line, but it was in the JLA:AS, where Wonder Woman (or was it Batman?) notes how Superman, despite his overwhelming power, never abuses it; and Batman (or was it WW) says, "That's why he's Superman." Great line, very inspirational.

And my all time favorite moment (though also not a fight) -
When Superman is standing over Dan Turpin's grave and says,
"In the end the world didn't need a superman, just a brave one."

I'd proffer "Hollywood-ization", i.e. that same malady that makes movie producers, once they have a hit, to try and carbon copy said hit or its formula ad infinitum.

Or at least I would have in the past. Nowadays, I don't regard Hollywood as a medium that responds only to economic considerations ...

I find myself wishing now that you had gone through with the idea that our Golden Age discussion had inspired. It would have likely formed a good basis for a STELLAR thread or two. Perhaps it still can.

Imagine if we had the ability to visually compare all eras of comicdom ...

Actually, you recently gave me a great resource for researching topics of that sort. Thank you. It's been fascinating to see storytelling changes of the medium.

I've gained a new respect for some writings of the Silver Age, for instance.
They could be, were, often silly, to be sure, but they also reveal a level of sophistication, of pure thought and effort on the part of the writers, that's easy to overlook. "Lexor" is the saga that preoccupied my attention this week, for instance. I first thought it a single, standalone story in one issue. Disappointingly, I then found it to be a tragic trilogy. More recently, I was surprised to find it was featured to some extent in multiple issues, and drove several seemingly unrelated stories. To the extent TurboImageHost holds out, I'll share some of those. They feature battles of psychological warfare, campaigns that are not just action only. Without further ado:

It's probably worthwhile to mention Lexor is a planet in a red sun system.
This particular point made it possible for Superman and Lex Luthor to meet each other on fully even terms for, well, for the first time I personally know of.
It allows viewers perspectives of the characters not possible in conventional stories. Above, for instance, you get a glimpse of how Lex probably views Superman on Earth. In subsequent panels the writers explore even further, and have Lex actually charge himself with temporary power and become a masked "super"hero to pursue Superman! Afterward ...

bluewaterrider
... the writers provide another unexpected twist.

What would you think should happen if Silver Age Lex Luthor, who cold-bloodedly murders Superman in the odd "imaginary" story should suddenly find himself endowed with superpower AND with Superman at his mercy?

Probably not what happens here. Lexor offered a rare and special view of Luthor indeed ...

For all of my historical Spidey love - and I've read every ASM ever (among various other titles as well) - my favorite moment was fairly recent, from the tail end of the Superior Spider-Man arc. And it wasn't related to anything battle related. Per my norm as I read comics, my favorite moments are character moments, and are rarely battle feats.

http://imgur.com/VnhH3Dm

There are decades of history between the two characters in just those couple lines and looks, as Norman realizes it's not Otto under the mask anymore. I got chills when I read it. It was as elegant a (re)introduction as I've ever seen.

But yeah, turning the JSA - comics' elder statesmen and link (both literal and metaphoric) to the Silver Age - into a glorified DC version of an teeny X-Men origin comic was one of the final straws to my giving up 99% of my comic reading. Alan was maybe the most obvious - he wasn't even a bad character, necessarily; he just had nothing at all in common with his namesake...it was copy/pasting a name onto a new character. But really, the whole team got butchered.

Just typing that now got me thinking, how much of the outrage over re-branded characters is basically the same thing? Sure, it's usually under the pretense of diversity - which is a largely neutral trend as it pertains to good storytelling - but railing against diversity misses the point. It's a rushed job of trying to co-opt a brand - in this case, a character's name, history and legacy - and copy/pasting it onto someone else, but without doing due diligence on what those mantles actually mean.

If Marvel or DC actually wanted to do new characters with the same names, but do it well, they'd actually be smart to follow the (pre-Flashpoint) JSA's lead, who handled that exact thing in an elegant way. Hell, was the female Star Spangled Kid an attempt to cram diversity down our throats? No, of course not. Courtney was an amazing character who inherited and eventually embodied a legacy of her predecessor, making it her own in the process. Same with Jakeem, and likely others I'm forgetting off the top of my head.

So heck, thanks for riling me up, Bentley. That was a revelatory rant.

Surfer had another really cool moment kind of like that at Rick and Marco's wedding in an issue of Incredible Hulk. Impossible man had given out bogus wedding invitations to some villains along with the Kree and Skrull who showed up in force. During the ceremony things were said between the kree and skull crews and everybody jumped up ready to fight at which point Surfer appeared overhead and sternly said "SIT DOWN" and they all quickly grabbed their seats and was like "Yes sir..." lol

4. Surfer defeating Mangog by being oh-so-pure-of-heart (non-canon, I know; but still). Also, the whole FF#72 storyline.

5. Batman beating Superman; also, outsmarting Darkseid.

When Superman fight Lex at the end of All-Star Superman, that sequence is one of my favorites in comics, from the moment when he steps forward to face him as Clark to their last exchange. Iconic, symbolic, moving etc.

When Kang kills the Time Keepers in Avengers Forever, pretty much proving them right: humanity was the ultimate threat to their existence and their greatest shield (Immortus). They decided to give up in humans thus dooming themselves. Also Kang screams are over the top.

In Kang's War after getting his base destroyed and plummeted to Earth, Kang just gets up and goes looking for trouble, then fights Cap on hand to hand.

As an action scene, the last battle against Annihilus in Annihilation, Nova was awesome through that event.
