Julie
Last night I watched this really old movie for the first time.,...it was such a waste of my time.....Though I must say that I've never been much of a fan of this type of movie anyway

ms_saigon
Hey, Julie! You're not a horror movie buff? To be honest I'm more a fan of the humorous type of horror movie myself. I thought that Night of the Living Dead was really creepy. My brother used to tease me when we were kids by pretending to be dead and "chasing" me in that zombie slow way.

Tex
Yes, Night of The Living dead is a horror masterpiece.
Almost every horror movie made after it copies its formula in some way.

mah
'tis good

LanceWindu
Never seen it.

I hate old movies like that.

BackFire349
it is a horror masterpiece. Tex is correct, every horror movie made after it copied elements of it.

legolas_luver
well if u are into the humourous horror movies then return of the living dead and return of the living dead part 2 are very funny check them out. stick out tongue

BackFire349
return of the living dead is classic.

legolas_luver
and kicks butt, the second one is really funny though. cool

ms_saigon
Yeah, I've seen those, too. All my movies likes are heavily influenced by my brothers. When you grow up with four brothers, you either watch what they watch or you don't get to watch anything. Unless, of course, they were watching porn, then they would kick me out.

Julie
I guess I'm the only one here who didn't much care for this movie...huh?

BackFire349
i guess so.

Julie
Is this your favorite movie....favorite horror movie....or just a good movie you think everybody copies from?

BackFire349
its not my favorite movie, but much like anything influential, its a movie that should be respected by everyone. i do enjoy it and i think it was very ahead of its time. and my favorite movie is well known across this board, Texas Chainsaw massacre.

Julie
Never heard of it....but that shouldn't surprise anyone

Tex
Is TCM on DVD BF?

BackFire349
yes, its a good dvd. although kinda expensive. 27.99 at bestbuy. but well worth it if you're a fan, cool deleted scenes, great commentary. cleaned up visuals and sound, while still retaining the gritty feel that has been so famous with it. my prized dvd in my collection.

Tex
Oh, its not one of those DVD's where 5 years from now they will just 'happen' to find 45hrs of extra footage

And re-release the DVD?wink

mechmoggy
The living deads are great, my friend and I rent all the cheesy rip-offs just for fun too.

He recently took delivery of "last house on the left" from America cus its still banned over here. I haven't seen it yet, but I'll be sure to post a review soon.

BackFire349
last house on the left is great, i have that dvd too. and tex, i dont think their will be a re-re-release, they have lots of footage already with this tcm dvd.

Tex
So how exactly do the girls parents kill the killers?
I want detailseek!

Julie
whoa...that sounds slightly violent

mechmoggy
From what I've been told, there's lots of "Home Alone" style traps. Sounded kinda lame to me but I won't pass judgement till I've seen it.

BackFire349
its very disturbing, theres castration and a chainsaw involved.

Tex
Me likesevil face

BackFire349
yes, although it doesnt show it very graphically, you get the idea...sometimes what you dont see is the most disturbing of all....

Tex
Nah.

I went to go see that crap Final Destination II, they show the sickest shit! Very graphic!

Its so nasty and disturbing, you have to laugh!stick out tongue

BackFire349
straight up gore doesnt bother me ever. im more bothered by stuff that you have to use you're imagination for. if you want a great example see henry-portrait of a serial killer.

mechmoggy
What about Cannibal Holocaust? eek!

Tex
I dont like those kind of movies, I get paranoid very easily.
shifty

BackFire349
cannibal holocaust is pure exploitation at its best.

mechmoggy
I think the thing that scares me the most about that film is the theme music, how amazingly out of place is that music with the film?!

BackFire349
yes, it was great. beautiful melodic music playing while these horrible images were occuring.

mechmoggy
It sounded like a bad holiday resort advert. sad

Member.
go see the one about the tooth fairy if u want a good scare.

Hurk
I liked the remake a lot

BackFire349
darkness falls.... i wouldnt touch that with a ten foot pole, that movie is the perfect example of what is wrong with horror omvies today.

Julie
it didn't look all that interesting to begin with ...let alone with tha kind of viewer review

GordonSkywalker
I don't care much for horror films. They are a waste of time. I used to be into that sort of thing, but not anymore. So no,Julie, you are not the only one!

BackFire349
waste of time eh? strong words, especially coming from someone who has 'chairman of the board' listed as one of his favorite movies.

GordonSkywalker
Look again! I took that one off my profile! And yes, that particular film WAS a sad waste of my time one dull morning last month!

BackFire349
still neglected to take off berley hills ninja i see. if any one movie is responsible for farleys death its that. and if you hate all horror movies then i cant really take you're opinion seriously because any horror movies would be a "waste of time" in you're opinion. and you wouldnt recognize the fact that night of the living dead was one of the most influential and daring movies to ever come out.

GordonSkywalker
I assume you expect some sort of reply. I do not have to justify my interests anymore than YOU do! So let's not lose our heads in endless debate, my friend. I happen to think that movie is fantastic, just as you appear to think the same of horror films-that one in particular. I am sharing my thoughts as you are.I am now departing this thread....Look for me elsewhere....

BackFire349
yes, i think night of the living dead is fantastic, but unlike beverly hill ninja, it was more then just a silly ploy for simple cash used by hollywood. it was a unique and influential movie that changed horror movies forever. all that can be said about beverly hill ninja, is that it was a generic movie that offered nothing new.

GordonSkywalker
Okay...I have returned to settle this matter with you. Obviously you wish to argue this point with me for some reason. Okay. I happen to think of your movie the same way you think of mine. And I tried horror films a long time ago, and got absolutely NOTHING out of them. I happen to like the humor and actors in Beverly Hills Ninja, although it is NOT my all-time favorite film. I think Chris Farley was a genius and this film is proof positive of this belief. Let us agree to disagree, and we will let this matter drop.

BackFire349
well thats what these boards are for, discussing and arguing my friend. anyways, the reason i continue responding is because much like if someone told you you're passion was a waste of time, im sure you would argue with them simply because you feel strongly about that particular subject, now i have no problem with you disliking horror movies, everyone has the right to their opinion obviously, but to call them all a waste of time is not only sill but shows great ignorance to the fact that to make a good, effective horror movie is the most challenging thing to do. that is why their are so few of them, very few people have the skill required to do so. im sure you wouldnt like it if someone called you're passion a waste of time. so that is why i continue to debate this with you. and dont get me wrong, i enjoy farleys movies, they are silly and funny and good for a laugh, but they are in no way shape or form quality movies. they all basically consist of him hurting himself and yelling obsenities for the duration of the movie. he was a great comic but most of his movies were pretty much teh same thing, which is why i basically only like black sheep and tommy boy. plus davis spade was a great pairing with him. so basically, if you dont want to start an argument, do not call any genre of film a 'waste of time' as you did because simply it isnt true.

GordonSkywalker
Are you really offended because I happen to not care for that type of film(and yes there are more than 'just a few') or because I won't back down from this debate? I tried those films you are so passionate about when you were just a child. I had friends who tried those films, so do not presume to lecture me on this. If you want some sort of apology, then fine, you got it. But I will not back down from my passions in life,my friend, and if you are willing to befriend me then you will accept our differences. This is a debate and discussion board. It would be pretty dull and boring if we all agreed to the same things. And I did not enter this conversation with malice in my mind, no more than you did,I presume. I was agreeing with another like mind. Now that I have done so, can we get beyond this agrument? My heart-felt apology is on the table, my friend. You can either accept it or not, The choice is yours and I am through with this conversation. I am needed elsewhere. Happy Dance

BackFire349
you seem to be missing the point. i am not offended. but as i said, to call any type of movie a waste of time is silly and ignorant. i am simply backing the movies i love. and as far as night of the living dead goes, since this thread is about this movie. say what you will about it, but it was inventive and is unarguably one of the most influential movies ever made. there are simply some movies that cannot be insulted legitimately. night of the living dead is one of those, because, much like citizen kane, 2001 a space oddessy, and many of the other influential movies, it sparked a whole genre and did so many things that had never been done in a movie before.

BackFire349
and i am not looking for an apology of any sort. simply quality discussion.

GordonSkywalker
Fine, let's be friends. I happen to have just agreed with you regarding Tomb Raider on the other thread, you know? And I think you have made some excellent points in the defense of your favorite film. As long as we are discussing classics,is there a Godfather discussion on this forum?

BackFire349
no, feel free to make one.

Julie
I think they took the order seriously.

GordonSkywalker
What order are you referring to? I don't understand the comment.

Julie
hehehe by this time I forget too.....if you weren't older than me I'd say that old age really taxes the memory

GordonSkywalker
I may be older than most, but I got it where it counts!

mechmoggy
Cheap car insurance? stick out tongue

Corran
laughing out loud

GordonSkywalker
Actually I just said that because it sounded cool.

Julie
oh i see....welll it worked.....I'll consider you cool for at least a full minute:-)

mechmoggy
Per day or in total? wink

I'd best stop it really, I'm 26 this July. sad

Julie
wow...you're old too:-)

BackFire349
gramps.

mechmoggy
Bite me. stick out tongue

BackFire349
you wish baby.

GordonSkywalker
Gee, it is SO nice to see us all getting along with each other! This must be what teamwork is all about. At least, I THINK that's what the guy behind me in the store said........

mechmoggy
Hey BF, I watched Zombie Flesh Eaters the other night but I was very very drunk and can't remember a lot. I do remember some good effects in it, have you seen it?

BackFire349
no, but i just bought a new one, called zombie holocaust. it was awesome. it had cannibals AND zombies. talk about heaven smile

Julie
are we talking movie...games...or what?

mechmoggy
Movies Jules!

I'm gonna have to watch Zombie Flesh Eaters again soon, my mucka wants it back this weekend. I'm frightened to watch it alone, who wants to come round? embarrasment

BackFire349
sounds interesting, ill try to rent it....doubt i can find it anywhere though.

Kerriann
I 've seen the old version of nigh of the living dead and the new one. i thought the old one was crapppy but the new one was decent although the zombies looked so fake. i love horror movies especially " i no wot u did last sumer" classy stuff!

Augeybana
The return of the living dead 2 was not that bad.

BackFire349
i know what you did last summer sucked. ive never seen return of the living dead 2. the first ones classic though.

Julie
I never saw that second one....the first was just ok IMHO...though it is definately above several others I've seen...esp ones that feature mashed potato towers....

razorrex10
horror movies suck ass no ofense blackfire my own opinion i get scared and paronioened way to easily i watched like this collection of greatest horror scences of all time and they showed texas chainsaw massacre i had nightmares for a year!! damn that shit scares me but when i was younger i would watch chucky and freddy krueger every day but know it scares the crap outa me and can't sleep for a week

Augeybana
I love horror movies Night the living dead is a classic and The fog was pretty good.

GordonSkywalker
I was disappointed by I Know What You Did Last Summer. Didn't do a thing for me.

Augeybana
And a scream rip off.Part two sucked even more.

GordonSkywalker
I didn't even bother with Part 2. That's how bad I thought it was.

Augeybana
Yeah there nothing like a movie with brandy as the hero.

Julie
who?

BackFire349
horror is a genre that is a burried treasure these days. it doesnt get the credit it deserves. and scream was good, just what it spawned was horrible.

GordonSkywalker
Having a singer/actress like Brandy in the second 'Last Summer' film just spelled disaster to me.

GordonSkywalker
Hey Backfire has The Howling series been discussed here yet? The ones with all the werewolves? Used to watch them on USA during the weekends off from school. The ones featuring the nuns was the best part.

Augeybana
Yeah i believe that's the only movie she did thank God for that.Oh yeah she did a crappy cinderella movie that sucked.

GordonSkywalker
Now that should have been a horror movie! Brandy as Cinderella!

BackFire349
i never cared for the howling, in fact im not a big fan of the werewolf movies, i loved silver bullet however, and i like the original wolfman.

mechmoggy
What about American Werewolf in London, that films a classic.

And Dog Soldiers, have you seen that BF? It was a UK film released last year, see if you can rent a copy of that.

BackFire349
we have it at my store. ive never seen it though. ive been meaning too. and america werewolf in london is good too, forgot about that one.

mechmoggy
Watch it BF, and if you're not satisfied, then I'll gladly post you the money it cost you to rent it.

Its nothing new, but there are some funny lines in there and good characters. Rent it asap. cool

BackFire349
i rent movies for free. so you can send me an empty envelope.

Julie
you do?

BackFire349
yes, i work for blockbuster.

mechmoggy
I knew that, but I wasn't sure you'd have that as a perk.

Have you rented it yet?

BackFire349
not yet. ive had 2 days off so i havent gone in.

mechmoggy
*Shakes fist*

Why you lazy little....

BackFire349
you know me too well.

mechmoggy
Dammit, have you watched it yet? mad

Julie
I don't know.....*waits*

BackFire349
jesus mech, give me some time. ill rent it tommorwo ok?

mechmoggy
I'm touchy on this subject, I think only Ush and I posted a review of this film in the review section. It would be nice to add another.

BTW, before the film started (at the cinema and the DVD) there's was picture of a dog in a bow-tie and hat which came on screen. I don't know, why but me and my mates couldn't stop laughing at it.

A dog in a hat! laughing out loud

BackFire349
haha

mechmoggy
I think we all laughed because the film was a horror and the title was "Dog Soldiers" and then this non-threatening dog in a hat and bow-tie comes on screen briefly and it seemed amusing to us.

I hope its on your copy BF, I really do. big grin

BTW, my fave line in the film is, "........sausages......".

BackFire349
ok, i finally rented it mech. ill watch it tonight or tommorow.

BackFire349
ok, i just watched it.... wow.... very!! surprised. awesome freaking movie. i loved it. thank you for making me rent it mech.

Julie
sounds kinda strange to me, but then again I'm a big fan of scifi...which is usu weird

mechmoggy
You should rent it too Jules, the more people know about this the better.

Have you posted a review in the existing thread BF? I'll go look.

BackFire349
yes smile

Julie
uh what movie?

BackFire349
dog soldiers.

Julie
When was is made...and would Blockbuster have it?

JediRouge
Keep in mind George A. Romero got his idea from the book I Am Legend, not the movie that Will Smith was in...

Never knew that. Though there were alot of zombie films prior to NotLD as well.

Actually the fact that you bring up I Am Legend is interesting because Vincent Prices Last Man on Earth came out in 1964.
Night of the Living Dead was 1968.

Though the infected in Last Man on Earth were more vampires than zombies.

COG Veteran
Talk about threads returning from the dead lol. But Romero's staying power is pretty awsome. Guess thats what you earn for creating a popular genre.

True. You can't beat genre defining films.

Kazenji
George Romero has been shit lately with his movies

he's lost his touch.

That's true, pretty much what happened to Lucas. When you stick around too long, you're work can get muddled when compared to you're heyday. When a film franchise gets too big, it also gets weak. Pirates, Star wars, Indiana Jones, to name a few.
