The Joker(Ledger) comes across the gemstone from the first "Wishmaster" movie and releases the evil djinn inside it. The djinn's goal is to get the Joker to ask for three wishes, on completion of which the djinn's race can enter our dimension and cause untold amounts of chaos. The djinn is completely upfront about this with the Joker, knowing that he's a nilhilistic psycho who would enjoy demon domination anyway. However, what the djinn doesn't realize is the Joker's on to his game, having watched the sequal to Wishmaster( hey, it's the Joker, he's always meta 
) and knowing that asking for three wishes would send Joker to the djinn's home dimension for an eternity of endless torture. The Joker doesn't want that, and is going to try to trick the djinn into inadvertently helping the Joker spend chaos while at the same time NOT screwing over the Joker.
