Does anyone know about the games "Descent: FreeSpace" or "FreeSpace 2"?

Also for the FreeSpace gamers, does anyone know the latest news? About Volition wanting to "kill" to make FS3? About the interview with Jason Scott, lead writer of the Freespace series?

Freespace was a great franchise, not as good as the original Descent series, though.

Descent 1 and 2 are the greatest FPS's that have ever been made.

what exactly did it have in common with Descent, Not much from what i'm seeing no flying around in mines and rogue mining robots.

Absolutely nothing. They're technically not even apart of the same series. They just threw "descent" on there for publicity sake.
