1. First off:

The Dark Knight Returns doesn't have Superman in it, but Captain Marvel. How does Batmans final fight go down, assuming he can prep against him?

2. They switch villains. Superman has to deal with Sivana, and sometimes rumble with Adam, deal with Mr. Mind.

Marvel, conversely, has to deal with Luthor, Cyborg Superman, Bizarro Superman, Batman...

Who makes out better for the change?

1. Batman would have to have some kind of magic involved prep/plot device in order to contest with Marvel. Marvel doesn't really have any exploitable weaknesses outside of high end magic.

2. Cap's villains are decidedly few and far between in terms of legitimate threats to Superman Post-Crisis. Sivana's slightly behind Lex, but given his resources and intellect, he could exploit Superman's weaknesses. Mr. Mind could be a challenge depending on circumstance. Still, Sivana and Mr. Mind wouldn't be anything beyond Braniac and Luthor. Now, the Three Faces of Evil would be something that should be beyond Superman conventionally, as would a fully powered King Kull and Oggar.

A lot of Superman's villains would have to change their game play considerably in order to get the advantage on Cap, at least those who rely on prep and weakness exploitation to best Superman.

Overall, I'd say Superman would have things easier as Cap's rogue gallery isn't what it used to be.
