That was the strangest part for me. But now that I think of it I do remember reading something about Jewish belief in reincarnation...at least one of the sects.
Deja~vu
Jews don't believe in reincarnation. They must be heretic Jews.
BIZAREOOOOO!

"In traditional Judaism, dogs are considered to be impure animals."
No wonder Hitler hated them so much; thought they were gonna come after Blondi.

Jews believe in reincarnation? 'Reincarnation' is not exclusive to the 'Eastern' faiths. It appears not only in some Judaic doctrines, but also Muslim and even early Christianity.
As for this story: I could really use a yalmulke-wearing, facepalming smilie right now.

I had no idea rabbinical courts had the power to decide what you reincarnate as.
Omega Vision
I had no idea they had the power to hand out stoning sentences.

I'm not sure if they do. The man came back as a dog because a judge cursed him but it doesn't say if that was a sentence or just a random curse.

But even then, they obviously believe that the curse worked... meaning that, the rabbi who cursed him was able to decide his reincarnation, as I said.
