I didn't know they fought during the Onslaught saga.

For the most part, Apocalypse didn't get involved at all. He did hatch a plan to try and stop Onslaught from absorbing Franklin Richards, but it was foiled and that was about the extent of Apocalypse's involvement. Aside from that, all Apocalypse really did was stand around and talk to Uatu about how invincible Onslaught was.
