Well, the Invisible Children campaign hasn't clearly defined what the money is going toward. The Obama administration hasn't sent any signals that they ever planned to remove the troops we have stationed in Uganda that are helping to track Kony. And it's unclear how the money being donated will have a tangible affect. I'm not saying IC can't make a difference with their funding, but hey don't actually have a clear outline of how to do it.

And, on a more sobering and cynical note, Uganda has human rights abuses all over the place, and nothing resembling a democracy. Eliminating Kony would be a step in the right direction, but a very small step.

There's also claims that the video has some misinformation.

So yes, possible scam.

No one doesn't want the guy eliminated. There isn't two sides to that discussion. But the apathy and backlash is due to skepticism over the fundraising combined with the fact that many people don't think that, say, signing a Facebook petition will affect a third world war villain.

^ Agreed. Kony hasnt been seen and hasnt been active since 2006. Where was everyone then? Now everyone and their mother is on it, literally. People on my facebook, kids even, that never express their concern for world views are posting this "support the international effort to arrest him."

The video even goes as far as showing the IC crew cheering that Obama will send in 100 troops... 5 years after the fact.

As for why I think its a scam... I think its simply propaganda. Just like iraq. Obama is looking for reelection. I believe its how this video was so widely spread in a matter of hours. I hear complains of youtube viewers all the time stating that they purposely dont update their view counts even when the amount of "like" exceeds the amount of "views" yet in this particular case I watched all day as the view count went from 1 million to 4 million to 7 million to 32 million and now after a few days we see its at 50+ million. All this im saying is speculation of course but I'd like to think I have a good grasp on common sense.

I hate pricks that exploit children to their own gain. Kony is an evil piece of shit, and I have considered supporting the movement myself. It's only a couple of bucks per month, so if it's a scam It's not like I'm being taken for millions of dollars. However, if it is real, and this bastard is caught because of little people like me, then great. No more children forced to kill their parents, or little girls forced into prostitution by this particular cretin. This is what we were put on this earth to do people, to help each other. No?

If it's true, this in itself is questionable because, as you said, Uganda does have terrible human right violations.

From what I hear the group they're funding is a rival militia that really isn't much better than the LRA.

There are so many responses to Kony2012 that it seems almost like an organized movement, as though they all knew about this beforehand and were given money by one central source in order to push a political agenda. Now that's speculation of course but I like to think I have a good grasp on common sense.

It wasn't the "Ron Paul is secretly both Kony and Invisible Children" part? I even did it in the "I'm not saying I have proof, just that we should consider it" style that conspiracy buffs like to use to weasel in ideas.

Not being sure if they documentary even existed was probably the most serious part of that post. I've literally seen nothing but "Kony2012 is a plot to have the US invade Uganada" posts on the subject. The conspiracy lobby is not one I'm especially trusting of. I don't doubt there really is a video but of all the things I said it seems like by far the most likely to me.

Once a person leaves a place they can never come back to it? Troops were sent to help advise the Ugandan government in building defenses in case Kony (or someone else) attacks again. Even if Kony himself is dead the LRA is definately still active, they were killing people in Uganda as recently as 2009.
