Jedireaper
WELCOME TO HAZMAT

This will be my retake on the original RP that started it all five years ago...

------------------

You are the best of the best, you are United States Marines, part of the Hazardous Materials Division. As a Hazmat member your job is simple, you go in and clean up any potential hazards by any and all means. You have been under-fire before, you have been in hot zones before.

This mission was a little different.

The location was different. Kept in the dark, the Hazard teams were shipped to the location via truck and kept under guard. They were escorted into the facility via freight lift from the interior of what appeared to be a large military motor pool, apparently devoid of any vehicles except for the truck.

The mission a secret, the facility officially did not exist. One of the many black operations being run by the US government and or military.

You are a member of Delta and Echo teams.

You are the Hazmats.

Here we will discuss aspects of the coming game, and ask questions ect.

Please feel free to chip in and chat, but please abide by the forum rules when posting if possible.

Character creation will be initially done here and then likely moved to a separate thread. Please speak with me first via PM as you are making your character so I can help out, you will also need to talk to me about your rank.

Phoenix3068
My very first thought--

"It was supposed to be a routine mission... aren't they always?"

----------------------------

I'm thinking of character creation now. My idea is going be sorted around a merging of my FPS type character and my friend Reina's. That should be able to cover a seemingly rounded character. I only say this because it seems like we might need a character like that. How many specialties can we have JR?

---------------------------

Why didn't you add the other important stuff to that page?

The Big O
Didn't I sign up for this in the Idea Thread? I think I did but I don't remember.

Phoenix3068
Name: Alea Nerissa

Age: 24

Nationality: English

Team: Haz Team Delta

Rank: Specialist

Weaponry: USP .45, Smoke Grenades, Flashbang,

Specialty: Recon (Sniper) / Engineer / Comps

Appearance: Dark Brown Hair - Ponytail. Caucasian. Hazel Eyes. B-Cup (First real clear sign that this character is a girl, lol.)

Special Item: Tactical Hazmat Suit

Biography: N/A at this time. (I didn't agree with the previous bio I thought of and Jedi didn't like it.)

Jedireaper
I am authorizing two primary specialties and one secondary. for instance marksman and explosives primary engineering secondary. you can dabble by default in all skill areas as unskilled. I will be busy most of today but will be back before tonight.

XvampbenjiiX666
I think I'll try this out. It's been awhile since I've role played so I may be rusty.

Jedireaper
Thanks dude and no problem. Will get to everybody sometime duringthe weekend. If you think you have a good idea of what kind of character you want just make it, won't take a minute to accept or disprove it.

Jedireaper

ATTENTION

You may pick One effective primary (all equipment) and one secondary (partly equipped) specialities, and a third tertiary (no equip) speciality to say oh you can do things like it, you just aren't very skilled so more chance of things going wrong.

For instance, if you chose Marksman as your Primary; you would get more attachments for your guys when you get them and the ability to use almost any weapon skilled.

If you then took Recon afterwards, you would be better at Stealth, and silenced weapons, and can specifically use a Sniper rifle with deadly accuracy. Unlike Marksman, which is generalised you get specific training. It being secondary however, you may not have the equipment and weapons all or partly but you can use it fully trained.

Then if you took computers as third, then you would be able to use computersn and have knowledge of hacking but the skill will be untrained, so you aren't going to insta hack a door it could take ten minutes or so, and you will have to do more guessing. (if you get me)

If you forego the third option, you may make the first two both primary and have all the equipment you would think you would have in the field.

Please however I do not recommend dropping the third thing you will likely pick stuff up as you go equipment wise.

Don't worry about being totally realistic, this is a game we are going to have fun. Don't kill it with stats and stuff.

Phoenix3068
I'll drop the third and go with Recon and Comps. That way my character is effective as a Sniper and SMG, useful at stealth, and doesn't lose her advantage in hacking ability. Engineer was only a bonus thing I thought that might be useful.

XanatosForever
Name: Christine "Chris" Waller

Age: 23

Nationality: Irish

Team: Delta

Weaponry: M9 Beretta with flashlight attachment, Smoke Grenade, Flashbang

Speciality: Medic, Tactical Communications (Tac-Com), Transport

Appearance: Chris stands at five feet, six inches. His hair is buzzed, with brown stubble growing in. He has a thin frame, with the firm muscles built during Basic and after. His face is somewhat gaunt, with a permanent shadow from the contrast of is dark hair and his pale complexion.

Home Country: United States of America

Motivation: Delta

Equipment: First Aid Kit (fully stocked), Portable Defibrillator, Stim "cocktails" (emergency use only), Radio Beacon with Transmitters (allows long distance communication with squad), Frequency Jammer

Special Item: Tactical Hazmat Suit

Location: Facility Freight Area before second freight lift down into the facility proper.

Biography: Christine entered the U.S. military the moment he turned eighteen to get out of his broken home. His father was a stereotypical Irish alcoholic that thought christening his only son with as female name would be hilarious. Chris didn't agree. The last straw came when his studies to enter a career in medicine ended in failure. With debts from school loans and the drain from his drunkard father, he couldn't afford to try again, and the man who sired him laughed in his face, saying he would never amount to anything. That night Chris broke his father's beer bottle over his head. The next morning he was off to Basic. He surived boot and found his studies paid off after all; he had a talent for mid-conflict medical assistance which made him top in his class, along with jury rigging communication lines. Combined with a small talent behind the wheel, arguably the only good thing his father ever gave him, he was assessed and transferred to the Hazmat division, where his medical and communication skills could prove to be invaluable.

Jedireaper
Approved and that (discounting me) is two of four.

starryknight

Having her dreams of the cat walk dashed early in life Sarah grew to be what her family wanted.

Jedireaper
SO the team is nearly ready to begin discussing ranks...

The Scenario
Name: Ethan Hayes

Age: 26

Nationality: American

Team: Delta

Weaponry: M11 Pistol, Smoke Grenades, Tear Gas grenades

Specialty: Primary-Engineering, Secondary-CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear), Tertiary- Explosives

Appearance: Ethan stands at an average 5"10 with a stocky physique. He has short dark hair and brown eyes.

Home Country: United States

Special Item: Tactical Hazmat Suit

Biography: Ethan grew up in U.S, going into the Army to help pay for college, and upon finishing school joined an ordinary Hazmat cleanup team, where he served for several years before transferring to the Corps of Engineering. Eventually he was chosen to enter the Advanced Tactical Hazard Team and assigned to Delta Team.

Jedireaper
All present and correct. I have taken the Lieutenant rank, but feel free to pick any rank you want. Just don't be stupid about it. For the purpose of the mission, the Lt is in charge (for now).

Phoenix3068
Then what was the point of having us go to you for ranks as you said in the original CS descrip. Aghh!

XanatosForever
Scenario, thank you for being smart enough to ensure one person on the squad will actually have some bio-chem expertise. thumb up You are my hero.

Chris will have the rank of Corporal. His skill set got him onto Delta, but he's never shown outstanding service to really get promoted.

starryknight
I don't know rankings so I'll fill what we need or give me one I don't mind.

Phoenix3068
Sarah's Military Family history would suggest her rank her in the lines of a Sergeant but her lack of desire and passion about it would rank her lower. I'd personally call her a Private. Good thing I don't decide ranks :P

starryknight
Just because she rather be doing something else doesn't mean she can't excel at it. big grin

Jedireaper
Ah the blissful discussion. And originally I had decided to give a list of ranks, but you guys can pick anything up to a Captain. If you want to lead the squad then great. Just discuss it among yourselves. There are 14 sargeant ranks in the us military just google Mariune or Ranger rankings. I like the Airforce rankings personally.

XanatosForever
I'd considered coming up with a dedicated leader character, but felt having a medic might be more useful.

Phoenix3068
I think having a leader would be a great idea. But I think having a character that 'gets us through the first door' would be a better one. When you think about it, my character could save everyone just because of her "AMAZING" hacking skills. stick out tongue

XanatosForever
Were ranks absolutely necessary for this to start, or did we just kind of get caught up in different things?

Phoenix3068
The only real ranks that are necessary are the ones for the commanding officers. Current, JR is the Commander of our operation as he is the highest ranking officer to date. Should he fall, the next ranking officer in line becomes the commander of our unit. Without one, we are like a snake with its head cut off. That would be most ineffective.

Jedireaper
Precisely.

And in answer to a question, we can say you have been called in frm various dutys and this is our first Operation together, or you can say we are a seasoned unit and this is something like our tenth Op together. It doesn't make that much difference, except you may be less willing to follow my orders because you don't know my character smile up to you guys. I don't mind being the guy that follows orders.

The Scenario
I guess I can take corporal or something?

XanatosForever
I'll take the newbie approach then, and be private. The rookie compared to everyone else. stick out tongue

Phoenix3068
Affirmative. It should be enjoyable to be on either a new operation team or a veteran commanded unit. I pray we will be successful in our attempts.

Jedireaper
We will need a Sergeant.

Jedireaper
Game begins soon. Watch this space lol

XanatosForever
Awesome, a chance to actually do something. stick out tongue

Jedireaper
Can do some practice Role Playing here if you like? Maybe their conversation on the truck on the way to where they are going, with no idea why. Some of you may know each other, some of you may have never met.

Phoenix3068
That doesn't seem like a good idea. This is used for discussion. not roleplaying

XanatosForever
Agreed, though the concept itself seems entertaining.

Jedireaper
Just been Watching Resident Evil, I hadn't seen it prior to this point.

Jedireaper
Please post FINAL character Bios and details including ranks here for move to Character Archive. Remember the Bio is not important and can be made up as you go in game. I suggest you all leave character notes in your profiles in Hobby's or Biography or some such. Don't worry about being detailed. Your name rank profession prior to being snatched up, and what your character is good at speciality wise will be great. (only for those who can't be arsed).

Phoenix3068
Before I join in, I'm going to reconfigure a few things (like what she'll be called by, if not by her name).

The Scenario
Suspense, tension, guessing!

Jedireaper
THE SENARIO- this particular part is more of a prequel to the main game, we are just en-route, a way to introduce each of our characters (I guess).

TO ALL -- INCLUDING THE SENARIO.

We aren't currently wearing the suits, and we have bare minimum equipment with us. Doubt any of us have side-arms at this point, we may do though, probably have combat knives and a canteen.

We have trained in the suits, and know that we will be wearing them in a proper situation eventually, but since we volenteered for it, we have literally be snatched up in the middle of the night, we are wearing standard military garb in most cases, ranks ect, dog-tags (in all cases), and maybe the odd equipment satchel. smile

XanatosForever
Chris always has his medkit nearby. stick out tongue

The Scenario
Okay, first screw up goes to me. If we can just all mentally replace this:

With this:

Hopefully that should cover the damage.

Jedireaper
No damage, Really.

Unbias3d
GUESS WHO'S BACK

Jedireaper
Delta's back boiiii!

Unbias3d
looking for my old character sheetz

Unbias3d
Ok, nevermind, my old character sheets are horrid, I'll just redo them...

Unbias3d
Name: David Fenta
Age: 25
Nationality: Caucasian
Team: Delta
Weaponry: M1911 .45 with Tactical light and laser. Frag, smoke, flash grenades.
Speciality: Sniper, Medic
Appearance: Dark brown hair, green eyes, fair skin, average build.
Home Country: USA
Motivation: David has always been driven by a constant desire to be the best and make a difference. Some would call it dedication, while others would call it a mental disorder. Whatever the case, he lives by this desire, and it very well may be the death of him. (Foreshadowingaherp derp)
Equipment: Rangefinder/Binoculars, T-UGS (Motion Sensor), MAV, Ammo, Med-pack+, flash-light, GPS, rations, Combat knife.
Special Item: Tactical Hazmat Suit
Location: Facility Freight Area before second freight lift down into the facility proper.

-

Name: Carlos Sanchez
Age: 24
Nationality: Hispanic
Team: Delta
Weaponry: G17c with Tac light, laser. Frag, smoke, frags.
Speciality: Designated Marksman, Spotter
Appearance: Tan skin, brown eyes, black hair, a bit short, but decently muscular.
Home Country: USA
Motivation: As a childhood friend of David's, Carlos has always been motivated by the drive to never be bested by David. He also doesn't want to see the crazy bastard die. (MOREFORESHADOWINGAHERP DERP)
Equipment: Rangefinder/Binoculars, SOFLAM Laser Designator, Ammo, Med-pack, flash-light, GPS, rations, ACB-90
Special Item: Tactical Hazmat Suit
Lacation: Facility Freight Area before second freight lift down into the facility proper.

Jedireaper
And without a single question, Unbias3d gets it in one. Approved for both character sheets. And that will mean we now have a full team roster.

ANY ADDITIONAL CHARACTERS WILL BE CONSIDERED PEOPLE WE PICK UP, OR MEMBERS OF ONE OF THE OTHER TEAMS.

Since this is a re-set of the series, it leaves a nice opportunity for these character to take a new direction, and follow a new path.

Not quite the original story either, my re-interpretation of it. smile

Jedireaper
And without further 'ado please post final bios and sheets, if you do not believe you need to, just let me know.

starryknight
Hey can Sarah's father be a Colonel or something?

Jedireaper
Sure.

The Big O
I will have my character posted this weekend. So I can just jump right if/when its approved, I'm just gonna play it like my character has been present the entire time. They were just in the background.

Jedireaper
Your character was approved. I have been asking for final versions for the Character Archive.

The Big O
What character? I didn't make one unless your talking about the one grime the previous Hazmats.

Jedireaper
Did you not? Ah... so you didn't, was thinking of Senario I think.

XanatosForever
Hey JR, did you want those final versions PMed to you or posted here?

Jedireaper
Posted please.

XanatosForever
Okay, we'll I'm fairly sure the only thing I needed left was rank, so here goes!

Name: Christine "Chris" Waller

Unbias3d
What's with all the Marines? Lol.

Jedireaper
I know, so many marines, you know there are other divisions and units that are in the U.S. Military. We don't all need to be marines, I mean Loran is a Ranger, and as the saying goes- Rangers lead the way. And I'm not even American.

The Scenario
I assumed this meant we were all part of the Marines. Ethan started out in the U.S Army before going to the Navy pretty much because of that.

XanatosForever
I like the Marines. I know nothing about them, but I like them. They're still around forty thousand years later, in space. stick out tongue

Unbias3d
I picked the Marines because my characters were already Marines in the last rp.

Phoenix3068

Great, bring her in, sounds unhinged.

Phoenix3068
Flu going around right now. Not my best time for ideas. I have to read through the roleplay then I can post. My head is throbbing. Don't worry, I'll post.

P.S. Just so you all know, this sickness has been going on for the last 2 weeks. That's why I haven't been active. It's not because I've been being lazy or have forgotten about you.

Unbias3d
In Soviet Russia, Flu is sick of you!

Jedireaper
And here I was, worried that another game was doomed to failure.

Jedireaper
Character Archive and possibly location archive and maps coming soon.

Jedireaper
Here is the tunnel we are in (kinda). Imagine the walls entirely concrete, with vents, and lights are parallel with the run of the tunnel.

http://jaksview3.files.wordpress.com/2008/11/28tunnels600.jpg

Jedireaper
By the way, reminder- If you don't have the speciality to do something doesn't mean you can't do it, just try to be realistic about it. I will say as the game progresses you can earn new skills. Also all basic Hazmat skills we can assume we have been trained to an acceptable level in, anything further is just super training (if you know what I mean). lol

This is somewhat like what Malconins security uniform looks like, only the shoulder pads are red with a black patch depicting a red moon inside the Southern Cross star constellation.

Also, instead of the helmet, he wears a hat similar to a Nazi SS hat, with the same logo on the front of the hat as on the shoulder pads.

Basically, a more modern version of the SS uniform...and no, I don't support or condone the Nazi's in any way, shape or form....it's just that the bag guys always have the coolest looking uniforms!!!

Jedireaper
Indeed. But in future (and this goes for games by other people) please await go-ahead for your characters here, before posting in the RP thread. I believe it is possible you mis-understood something I said in PM, but it's cool. I did have some ideas on your entrance, however. Let me know. smile

Decomposition
Yes, sorry dude, my bad. It was just that I wanted to get what I had in mind written down before I had to head off to bed, as I was heading to work @ 0420 the next morning...

Phoenix3068
Is it safe to assume that we are caught unprepared? Though I don't know if we have already been in yet, I'm about to read. Every muscle in my body is making me pay for not being in bed but I refuse to go until I've at least posted once.

Jedireaper
Don't over-do it mate... Still on the intro at the moment for the most part.

Phoenix3068
over-do it? What do you mean, that is an intro.

The Big O
I was supposed to join this a LONG time ago. I will try to do this as soon as possible. Sorry, Jedi.

Phoenix3068

Jedireaper
Sorry Phoe' I was saying not to over-do-it as in you are ill and I knew that so I understood smile and thank-you for posting that. And indeed there are seven other team members apart from Rek. If the guy playing Malconin had waited till I had looked over he would have been there ahead of everybody and thus not with us in the truck but oh well XD it happens.

In terms of who I am playing right now.

Delta:
Loran "Rek" (James) Mirez, Lieutenant.
('Rek' was a nickname that stuck from training where he was caught totally wasted while on duty in a total state with explosives, also his plans have a wreckless flare to them, and he can use explosives for mundane tasks in a wreckless fashion (most accepted) so take your pick.) I will refer to him by the following especially early on 'loran' 'the lieutenant' 'lieutenant mirez' 'the ranger' and lastly 'Rek', however as the game progresses, it will be mostly Rek as you guys begin calling him that. But he hasn't volenteered that information to anyone yet.

Unspecified NPCs.

General 'Nowan'

In terms of Malconin, going to work his company into the plot (which is why I wanted him to already be there and he is with our equipment), and I am going to try and work Sarah's father in too somewhere.

Big O: okay mate, well Delta team is almost stuffed buut I have that 'people will drop out' feeling, so post your character. Military if possible.

Malconin is an outsider than has been dragged in for what-ever reason (maybe his company want rid of him).

I hope everyone is up for playing NPCs. No enemies appear till I've posted their first appearance so feel free to get jumpy but there is mostly suspense at first.

There is a team echo, and they will come in later at which point we will have further openings for additional main characters. If you want to have a member of Echo and basically play two stories then ok but I won't be concentrating on Echo's story as much.

And feel free to drag the plot in your own directions smile if you guys have a great idea let me know I'll see what we can do. And while this game has a heavily hosted feel to the plot, anyone can control it, it follows standard Unhosted rules. Think hollywood action heroes with tonnes of ammo, but try to be realistic.

Remember: we will get hurt, and maybe even die (or be turned). So be prepared to lose characters if appropriate. But have fun most of all.

Phoenix3068
I feel that at some point, Alea needs to kill someone. Not an enemy but one of the regular guys. Either one of the players characters or an NPC (most likely since I don't want to ruin anyone's experience).

I can imagine it like... Alea doesn't get her injection for some reason, her sanity started to slip. Mid fight, Carlos is hit and ends up falling back, they pull him into cover and prepare to treat him but have to first work on pushing the enemy back. In that moment, Alea would start hearing voices and end up slipping into her insanity long enough to pull out her knife and slowly execute Carlos (only finishing the sinking of the blade into his chest at the moment that the others turn around so they can see it). This is sort of vague but... I want to work in her insanity in definition into the story at some point. I can't imagine she'll be the last man standing.

Jedireaper
Too bad, she'll be leading team two unless the upcoming files they are all about to get will contain information on that. Well I say she'll be leading team two, but Rek may say something different. big grin so plenty of opportunity. And yes we will likely be splitting the team.

And you'll pick up a few NPCs like Sargent Frank Mistara, and his Private buddy Samuals 'Sam' Carter, and I'm sure others, but those guys are in Echo or another team depending on what happens.

I should mention the time of year.

In-game, it is one week from christmas so you can expect it to get cold. (well maybe not christmas, but y'know, near winter).

The suits are not indestructable by the way, they are good, but will need repairing after the wear and tear we go through. To get an idea, read the original game. Will post a link later is neccessary.

Phoenix3068
Eh, she really can't do that. She's the lowest in the pecking order right after Orion. She might be a high rank, but her sanity level marks her as unable to front a team. She can be a second in command, but can't lead it. She's too dependent because of her medical issues. The one who would lead the second team would have to be David.

Phoenix3068
I really want to recommend we talk about the next action. I was talking with Xanatos about this stuff, I didn't expect someone else to try and step in and get involved, lol. I am however not really able to wane from her actions for the sake of someone else so if someone gets her too heated without her getting the shot, she will end killing someone. I was just telling Xanatos about the repercussions of hitting her in the back to knock her out and how "If it failed" she might get too scared and attack Loran since he's in front of her. Right now, it can still calm down. I'm worried that someone is going to make a post that is going to freak her out.. like shooting her in the leg to neutralize her O.o

Jedireaper
Check your PMs.

Phoenix3068
Er... I just got the pm. One sec.

Phoenix3068
If it wasn't for a few hours that would be perfect to use right now. While she's out, she said enough that the ones who heard would understand she needs the injection so they could make sure she gets it and it would bring her leveled. The fact is though that knocking her unconscious in anyway can have two adverse affects...

1.) They don't have the time to lug her around for those few hours.
2.) Even with the injection, she's still not completely stable, waking up after an event like that can make very... very bad things happen.

Phoenix3068
I'd rather kill someone like Carlos, since he's the second character of a player.

Unbias3d
We shall see...

Phoenix3068
Well I could always kill off the other one.. *she smiles playfully*

Jedireaper
the death of a character is really down to the person playing. And we have more players than I am used to right now, and because I hadn't expected this kind of turnout I would have spread some of these characters into Echo... We'll see smile

Phoenix3068
Please don't think I'm that kind of person Jedi, I like to think I'm a well respected roleplayer the majority of the time. If I had plans for Alea to kill off a character, I would have her push them into a trap some how (where out of 3 people, at least 1 has to die) and then I would confirm with them in pm on the situation. The only reason I used Unbiased's characters as a reference was because it would be easiest to execute one of his, since he has more then anyone else.

Decomposition
Well, what if you think you kill Malconin, but in fact he has set the whole thing up to seperate himself from the group...as he might not be exactly what he seems??? that way, Alea thinks she has her kill, and Malconin can advance his own plans...

Not really sure what kinda situation we can set up for it though?...just an idea

Jedireaper
Okay, everyone who has ideas on the plot for their specific characters please PM me, we can discuss it.

Decomposition- I would like to talk to you about Malc's company.

starryknight- I need to discuss Sarah's father. And his involvement in this 'mess'.

Everyone else, things are cool. smile

Why do I have this Terrible feeling that it will be like in Destiny Orb where my Evil Character who was a Master of Illusions was unable to brainwash anyone after 5 attempts?

I only say that because while I understand that everyone has their skills, the idea that someone who specializes in stealth striking being unable to successfully take down even a single target is just complete bollocks.

On another note, Jedi you should create a sort of "Map" system for us so we understand exactly where each area goes as players so that when we have to direct our characters we're not stuck at a dead end that's not supposed to be there.

EDIT: Hey Jedi, I don't mean for this to sound disrespectful as I know that you're the one who made this RP. But if I may request, can you not post stuff like that in the roleplay and instead keep it limited to the OOC. This place is after all for discussion. It really bothers me when people do that stuff in the RP. Again, I don't mean to sound disrespectful. I understand if you want to tell me to piss off too.

I do not expect to have long discussions in the game thread, however that was information for those who have been actively reading the game but not the discussion. If you can see passed it as maybe audio commentary on a DVD then we should be fine. Occasionally I find that not all players read the discussion thread, thus I wanted to make sure people got the information either way.

But I do understand where you are coming from.

On the subject of maps for each area... I am working on it, but my PS2 Emulator is struggling to render the TimeSplitters Future Perfect beyond the opening logos. I'd rather not have to draw the maps, I may be starting work soon, I don't always have masses of free time.

I'm working on it though. If someone wants to go and build this facility using the cryengine or something yay!!

Phoenix3068
For me it could be as simple as typing direction into it. Like...

1. Fork in the Road, Left and Right.
2. If gone left, Enter Engine Room. Continue to line 3. If gone right, Enter Staircase. Skip to line 8.

Just something that gives us a hint of what we're doing.

Also, wouldn't Private Messages work for that? I get private messaged by you about stuff like that. Wouldn't it make more sense to do it that way?

Jedireaper
The area up-ahead is basically a large underground cargo transfer facility with stacked crates and ceiling rails that can move the crates about. The cargo room itself is not huge, but large enough for eight people to find it lonely, and there are various rooms and corridors branching off, but the main feature is along the right hand side where the wall would be is a flat-bed cart almost square, and large enough to carry two of those crates at a time along a train-style rail system, and carry them up into the tunnel (Probably to deliver received and checked cargo to the labs or other areas, it is surprisingly large and could potentially indicate that this is no small operation. There is an armoury room but it is locked and sealed by a small blast-proof door with keypad and ID or code-card required... That help?

Phoenix3068
Yes, it does. Thank you. Alea will probably jump onto the crates to check behind and around them and will probably be pestered to check the inside to be cautious. Where will we be getting our gear at?

Also...

Well, then it's a good thing there are nine of us! big grin

Jedireaper
I'll leave that up to you. I wouldn't say you are expected to search all the crates, we have no reason to think there are any actual hostiles, Rek was just being cautious.

Phoenix3068
All I heard was "Yes Alea, search all the boxes and I'll pet your head."

Jedireaper
Don't tempt me...

Phoenix3068
I just constantly want to argue the questionable notion over the intelligent team leader giving the crazy lady a loaded gun for the safety of his team.

Jedireaper
Better the crazy lady with the gun up ahead, that the one with the dagger behind us.

Phoenix3068
Neither one is necessarily good. I'd say both are pretty bad. Anyways, I'm waiting on someone to go on with direction. Jedi, you're supposed to be leading us. Post Jedi, post.

Jedireaper
Going to give players some more time, maybe those that haven't posted in the tunnel may post soon-ish. If not I will move things along.

Nearly there people smile

Phoenix3068
Okay, I'll just do random things until then on other sites.

Jedireaper
This is why I hate it when players join up and then disappear. Now I know how some people probably feel about me.

Phoenix3068
Come on Jedi. I'm just waiting, I haven't disappeared and I know at least one other person who if they try to disappear I can call them and scold them for hours.

Alea can't do anything until we enter the new area unless someone gives her a reason, so I can't really post. I'm just on hold over here.

Unbias3d
I wonder why people sign up if they aren't even going to participate...

Jedireaper
You said it brother, if they are busy sure, but I saw starry log-in the other day she could have PMed me to let me know she wouldn't be able to participate.

Rek can't move until the good Medic says something in response to him sad I don't want to do too much Meta-GM-ing.

Phoenix3068
Oh don't worry. As it so happens, the medic (Xanatos' character; Chris) just happens to be the guy that I can call up and scold until he gets up and replies. I'm not saying he's on a leash, but at least I have a way to contact him outside of Xat.

Let's try to move into a position where we don't have to depend on each other to post for a little bit. When we get to our gear, we should be able to have free rein on ourselves for a little while.

Jedireaper
Well get his arse in gear and get him on the blower to sprout some Medical nonsense... Otherwise I will move it all on tonight.

If you are really feeling that bored, we have revived the Star Wars RP feel free to pop over and just post.

XanatosForever
Sorry about the delay, folks. Got busy working and had a bit of a block. We should be able to move things along shortly.

Jedireaper
Thanks for posting and good post. smile

Phoenix3068
I hope I didn't mess up anything. It wasn't through the room, it was through the area that the crates were shadowing them. Also, it's a good thing that Carlos kept his distance other wise he would have been in her line of fire. She would have shot through him. Good call on that unbias3d.

Jedireaper
Okay I've posted, your post was fine, she hasn't finished all her orders but meh...

At this point feel free to jazz things up, no zombies, but files, order forms, strange crates or contents etc. you don't need me to tell you the story, because remember you make your own story. I can happily make my characters story, but that won't be your story. So to all of you, help make this story your own.

There are a lot of things I could have my character discover, or spot that would make him suspicious, but I don't want to steal lime-light away from everyone else so they have their chance.

Phoenix3068
She'll continue to keep point until Loran tells her other wise, so don't worry. I was just saying that how far she lead them through with that last post.

Jedireaper
You might need a second character, so you don't get bored. If Starry isn't coming back, you could take over her character. Or, play an NPC but that is still many posts off.

Phoenix3068
It's fine. I can keep a roleplaying going so long as the person I'm interacting with either

1.) Doesn't leave and not come back.
2.) If they do leave, doesn't care if I kill them off.

Jedireaper
In that instance, if I am still around- the death of a character will probably be decided, or at least approved by me. If anything I am happy to have 'off-screen' deaths to hint that someone died, only to have them turn up later on if the player returns. MIA presumed KIA kinda thing, but we'll see... Early days, early days.

Phoenix3068
Usually in RP, the qualifications for someone to be killed by someone else is...

1.) The other player must accept that their character was killed.
1a.) Because of stubborn players, this can be done by making sure there isn't a reasonable doubt that they could escape.
1a-Example.) If the character cannot move, has no way of escaping, and takes a fatal injury to a vital spot (a bullet through the brain, not just to the head) the player must accept that their character dies.

on KMC, these things tend to be present too.

2.) Both players (and apparently all other players) must have an agreement on what will happen. If the player who's character would die does not desire it, there is absolutely not chance for them to die.

Jedireaper
We'll see...

Phoenix3068
I'm going to do a pointless empty post. Nobody mind it. This is just for some back story into Alea's past.

Jedireaper
I just read, yeah that's cool. Besides your use of words needing a little work, and layout, and deciding between present and past tense style (which this game is in Past Tense) then yeah, great post! Just being pokey lol

Phoenix3068
But if that's the case of it all, then we can't really post our own perspectives. We should be posting from the tellers perspective, shouldn't we?

Jedireaper

But with a serious answer: Post however you want so long as your actions are understandable, first-person (though it wouldn't entirely fit), third, past tense or present tense forms of writing, it is your own prerogative. Neither past nor present forms of writing limit your ability to achieve certain effects within your writings such as brining in personal memories of events or altering the perspective of the teller (which in your post is your own point of view, and you are the teller).

"Alea..." The voice, soft, came from the man laying beside her, "adjust 0.5." The sand was cold beneath her as she shifted slightly to adjust her rifles scope to the new wind setting under the inky black sky. She stared down the barrel of her sniper into the darkness, at a lone and desolate road weaving it's way through this middle-eastern desert.

"Command this is snake-eyes three, we have eyes on road. Update on target vehicle." The man spoke almost whispered into his radio, and the paused to listen to a message she couldn't hear. "One minute out, copy." He turned and gave Alea an almost excited smile, and Alea could already hear the sounds of a vehicle approaching distantly.

She was prepared, her eyes flicking across the horizion as her spotter looked down his binoculars towards the same, his presence filled with confidence. There were no words needed between them, and she knew this as she readjusted her feet on the desert floor. Bang!, she thought, thats how it will go. Just like every other op. One shot from the darkness to end a man's heart. Bang...

Now I know that wasn't what you wrote, but that wasn't my intention. Based on what I remembered reading I just gave you an example.

The example is pointless, it was just fun to write.

Phoenix3068
Oh no, I understand. I'll eventually hone in on the whole story with a post. It's like in a game or movie. That was like, the quick flash back shaking in her mind. Eventually, more toward the end (this will require her to be off her medicine), she'll remember clearly every detail that happened and it will feel "right". Also, why is everyone so inactive? Ugh.. I'm going to go slap some people.

Jedireaper
If it helps this game is the only one I'm in thats shallowing. Can you post that team listing to me, it was sound, but I cannot find it anywhere. After this point in the game, people who have not posted their presence will be the first gone to open up new slots for new (or old) players.

Phoenix3068
Team A
Leader, Loran
Chris
Sarah
Alea

Team B
Leader, David
Carlos
Orion
Ethan

That team listing?

Also, do we get weapons with our suits? I forgot to ask that stupidly. Do we only get our suits right now?

Jedireaper
To be honest I'm not sure. I only really wanted us to have pistols going in and have to break into an armory or something to get proper weapons, we are armed but we also all have Hazmat skills generally which is why we are here, and we have no reason to believe this is a combat zone.

Jedireaper
Also nice work to Xanatos, and Unbias3d on their excellent posts describing the suits functionality without needing me to lead them in. You have just made my job easier, while giving an impression of how the suits function. Granted, Unbised has had a lot of experience with these suits (as a player, and mostly damaged ones) from having been in the three previous games, but the suit was described quickly enough.

I will note that while the suits have their own oxygen mix tanks, they generally will draw and filter air from the environment, because that tank isn't large enough to last too long, but has a recycle system that will take carbon dioxide apply a few chemicals and freshen it up to breathe again, so probably MAXIMUM is about 3 hours if you didn't move at all. Between 1-2 of general used but the supply is refreshed at any clean air source and filtered either way.

Onboard is an advanced systems computer interface that is programmed to react to eye movement, electrical brain signals (not directly, just tracks where your brain is communicating so that if you look at a part of the HUD it waits for the correct brain response to bring it up, so it doesn't stupidly block your view during vital situations), and a simple hand interface, which you can use by waving your hand infront of you (easiest way to use it), kinda combinations of smart AI, interface.

Phoenix3068
Can I trick out Alea's a bit to make it more combat oriented? Such as linking up to her weapons to show the gun data and bullets left based on the weight of the gun held since the suit would be in contact with it. As well as maybe highlighting specific targets based on mental designation, like making a note of that thing. I wanted to make hers adaptable for combat and for tech so that she could better analyze the data she might receive while investigating anything (like a foreign machine of some sort).

Unbias3d
Normally I would say that something such as an ammo estimator would be present in all of the suits, but that sounds like something that would be very inaccurate due to variances in gun weight based on attachments, magazine type, etc.

As for the tech stuff, I'm pretty sure he said somewhere earlier that all of the suits have specific attachments based on each team member's role and specialties.

That's just my opinion. You'll have to wait on JR for the final verdict.

Phoenix3068
Well it has a sort of smart AI capability. This is how I see it.

Say... At first, when the suit contacts an M9, it feels it. The suit might have a short radar frequency that can measure the length and put out a rough sketch of the shape of the gun. It memorizes the details and then it can tell you from then on what that gun is. When the gun fires a magazine until empty, it can determine the amount of shots inside of the gun. All of this stuff would have been done when putting the suit together. Aside from that, it could have been programmed in and bases it like how I said before.

This is just a quick go at it, I'm very tired right now and can barely put together a coherent sentence in real life.

Jedireaper
Unless the guns have been made to work specifically with the suits (something this team has NOT been issued with), I am going to say no. But it all depends, I am still toying with the idea of giving us assault rifles, but I'd rather us (as previously mentioned) have to work for it later.

The HUD can highlight targets for you, and track them for a short time while out of sight (few seconds), but aiming is done the good old fashioned way.

Please remember that this is NOT the nano suit from Crysis, it is cutting edge but not stupidly so. No MAXIMUM ARMOUR mode. If you are hurt the suit can administer some medical treatment to keep you alive and going, or kill the pain until the Medic or a medically trained sqaud member comes along. These suits can withstand an indirect nuclear blast even damaged, but they aren't going to last forever. They should last the run of the game at any rate, scratched, dented, torn, and with a dead battery (can be charged manually and by other methods).

We will find out stuff as we invent it in the story if that makes sense, if we set things with the technology too far ahead then we could end up cornering ourselved, because we said it couldn't do something.

In terms of an ammo counter, it may possibly eventually show a percentage of guessed ammo, remaining after using the gun for some time and having reloaded it several times. Not accurate however. And if possible, we are mostly all soldiers, the ammo counter would be an aid, and something most of us won't use or need. We'd be better able to guess remaining ammo, than the suit.

And radar would be really inneffective.

Phoenix3068
Why would a radar be ineffective?

Ammo I can understand. Ignore that one.

Phoenix3068
I... freaking... love, that set up. Everything there is perfect for us.

XanatosForever
My question now, is how Alea will receive her medical treatment. Will we have to manually open the suit each time, or can there be some method of injection through a slot or something?

Phoenix3068
We can only last about 3 hours on our suits oxygen alone, right? So I assume that it would be in one of those safe areas where their oxygen is cleansed and restored.

Estimated Assumption of how it will go...
Rek will stop the team for a little to perhaps rest and check supplies. During that downtime, the doc would have Alea remove her helmet so he can inject her. I imagine people will take off their helmets occasionally when not in a hazardous area. Recycled oxygen vented isn't as nice as natural oxygen.

Unbias3d
Actually, I doubt finding clean oxygen will be a significant issue.

I don't think we ever really used the internal oxygen tank in the old role plays. I could be mistaken though.

Jedireaper
The suits can filter most bio-hazards from the air. Rek used the internal tank on and off over the course of three games, mostly in the first or second (I forget).

Remember the suits are designed for long term use, there will be no need to take off the helmet to receive an injection unless the suits own medical interface is broken. Oddly enough Alea's suit will have a small supply of her medication that the suit will administer upon it's preprogrammed parameters. Chris can override that.

Sometimes real air as opposed to filtered air after being stuck in the suit for hours is preferable, and while the suit can administer stim shots, and nutrient shots we will need to eat real food and allow the suits a break eventually.

If you suffer from claustrophobia, there are ways to combat it, but eventually you will want OUT!

Radar is a little power hungry and would be rather bulky, but it has a range of visions such as night, infrared, heat, sound (yes sound vision- displays an environment based on sounds made and detected, may not show walls, but may give you an idea of how far away things are, just made this up so it is up to you guys).

I was thinking about where to take the story and what to do within, so any suggestions are welcome big grin

Will be posting soon. So last chance to get you posts in for those absent.
