I think anakin let luke win in the final battle, because he couldn't bring himself to kill him before in episode 5 he could have killed him before it would've been so easy but he didn't .

Proof: Just before the final battle luke said some things and instead of getting angry he talked back as if they were best friends. And usually you would think that he would 'escort' him to the death star with the clones but he stayed back for a bit and was doing what looked like daydreaming about something. Probably about how his life has wound up and of course his wife padme which would've partially changed his mind. For e.g. when palpatine told anakin to kill darth tiranis ( count douku ) he did it and ' partially' began his path to the dark side. Anyway because of all of this he couldn't and didn't want to kill luke in a way it weakened him.

And to prove even more that he has feelings for him is when darth sidious was about to kill him. He literally picked up sidious which is virtually impossible and threw him over the railing. That probably showed sidious that he should never have under estimated him, he is the chosen one after all. Any way he could have easily just used the force to just kill him. But because he had feelings for luke without thinking he just grabbed him and picked him up. Think of it like this if anyone one close to you was getting tortured what would you do think of a plan then do it, or get so angry you would charge at the person and beat them. While doing so would you think about the consequences ? Probably not its a little similar with darth vaders ( anakins ) circumstances.

What do you guys think?

This belongs in either the Star Wars EU or OT sub-forums, by the by. Depending on where it gets moved, the answer changes. It's anybody's guess as to what Vader's intentions really were in the film. There's no narration to give us insight, and no post-battle confession or analysis. So who knows.

If this goes to the EU though, we can wrangle in the film's novelization, which gives us a third-person viewpoint in to Vader's thoughts and emotions. According to the novel, Vader was genuinely trying to defeat Luke, and was genuinely defeated in turn.
