Why do people think fairytail is bad?

Just asking it gets a lot of hate I'm not sure why!
KingD19
Gets a lot of hate from who? I've been a fan since day 1 and I know a lot of people here are.
The original Fairy Tail thread I put up is nearly at 50 pages now, most of it good things.

Well I'm a regular internet surfer and I usually stumble upon manga stuff. From YouTube to forums I see numerous accounts of hatred on fairy tail and regular comparisons to bleach.
KingD19
People always find something to complain about and seem to forget that almost nothing is completely original anymore. Even then though, I don't see many actual comparisons with Bleach aside from people reaching.

....
People compare Fairy Tail to Bleach? Wouldn't One Piece be the more apt comparison? I've heard complaints that it rips a lot of One Piece off. I've also seen arguments from people whose opinions I trust usually say that that isn't true. So idk why Bleach is getting thrown into the mix.

Wouldn't Fairy Tail be more similar to Rave Master? Since the same guy made them?

People say it is stupid and the story is really messed up.

They do the comparison to bleach as they feel it is that bad ti should be compared to bleach.

Again they want to compare it to something they feel is just as bad.
Villelater
must be the generic name...doesn't sound like something with a kick
KingD19
It's the name of the magical guild the protagonists are members of.
NemeBro
That doesn't really change the fact that the title is bland, lol.

Well, around here and another forum I go it, it's well liked.
Elsewhere? It may be some elements beyond pure quality. Like, it doesn't really go for the 'epic plot arcs' thing that a lot of people like. Individual stories can be epic, but there's no grand goal, and it doesn't have big multi-story arcs. The dragon and Zeref things may run in the background, but mostly each story is fairly self-contained.
Also, I'd personally describe it as a very consistent series. It tends not to have moments to match the highest moments of some of the others, but nor does it have the low moments. If you generally judge by the peaks, you might rate it lower.
I know some people don't like Natsu and his tendency to, to use a phrase I've seen tossed around, win with 'nakama punch.' And it is true that it's a pretty nakama oriented series. I know other people aren't a fan of Lucy as a viewpoint character, be it for fanservice or her being relatively weak.
'Course, I like that it has a buncha teamwork, a main case where the male lead isn't the strongest, a relatively flat power level (i.e. it is not about characters repeatedly finding new levels of powers, and power boosts tend to be brief supercharges and only rarely are they lasting), and so on and so forth. Not to mention, much faster pacing than the other big series!
So I can see various things people might not like about it, but I still rate it welllll about Bleach and, at times, even above OP (which, though I like it's good parts, has slow pacing that bugs me, and too many weak arcs of late).

Also, the anime started out pretty low budget, which doesn't win any friends.
danteiscool
like some have already pointed out, there are people out there who hate it for the whole nakama thing, and they find some characters rather annoying like Lucy. and holy crap, some people seem to just hate Jellal with a burning passion that I have rarely seen before.
and yeah, Q99 also brought up another point; the anime isn't exactly one of the best well done animes at first.

Some time ago I watched the anime until somewhere in the middle of the moon island episode on which a slumbering beast supposedly resided. At which point I realized that I didn't care for any of the characters nor the story, and dropped it.

Too bad. Laxus and co start making their appearance after that and FT starts becoming the FT I like.
Ah well.
Haters gonna hate.

Yea, the moon island isn't exactly great, it's probably the weakest arc, and it's way up front.
Oh yea, I kinda like him now, but Mashima used him again too soon after the first time, plus there's, like, three of him (and the other one is cooler than the main one, but still).

Everything is hated by someone somewhere. Personally, I'm so jaded with anime in general that I never gave the manga a chance. If I'd started reading FT and OP like 4 years ago, I'd probably be a fan of both.

I was less strict back then than am I now.
Currently if a book doesn't interest me enough to turn the page, I will put it down before getting to the second one; if a manga doesn't grab my attention within the first chapter, I won't bother reading the next; and the same thing goes for anime and its first episode.
In fact, what I do now (especially for novels) is that I read the first page online before deciding whether or not to buy it.
The most important rule in media is to grab the attention of the audience as quickly as possible, and if the creator can't do that then what reason do I have to invest my faith in the creator's ability to provide me with a work of fiction that I will enjoy? I'm not going to force myself through a work of fiction, when the sole purpose of fiction is to entertain.

I kind of disagree, not with the general sentiment (dropping stuff you don't like and not picking just anything obviously makes sense), but with some of the general evaluations regarding entertainment. There is such a thing as an adquired taste, otherwise people would just eat hamburgers and never develop expensive and gourmet restaurant food, this isn't even a plea for "artistic" media either, is simply a thing that you can apply to any entertainment.
I do think there are too many sh_tty manga though, most of the time I won't even bother unless someone whose judgement I trust recommends it.

But said taste should develop should develop as you experience the manga format, and not simply through single works.
However, that wasn't the point I was raising.

I was just making a precision. Love to make those, makes me feel justified when I nitpick things to hell.
