In the 90's, Seattle was the center of an explosion of music with all the focus on Grunge and Nirvana's fusion of Portland style PDX Punk, twee pop and Scratch Acid style noise. However, there was another side to Seattle. A band of transplants form Ohio called the Gits started a completely different movement with other bands like 7 Year ***** (put together from their friends whom they taught to play). The Gits with their lead singer, Mia Zapata blended the soul of Southern Blues with the intense ferocity of Hardcore Punk. They were ready to sign a generous major label deal and destined to eclipse Nirvana and Mia was going to be the Janis Joplin of the 90's.

Then she became the single most tragic member of the 27 Club when she was kidnapped, beaten, raped and murdered by a piece of shit psychopath and possible serial killer who managed to elude police for a decade. This was made even more creepy by the song Sign of the Crab from their posthumously completed second album in which Mia more or less predicts her own murder.

It'll be 20 years since that horrible day in July.
RIP
