Let's use all of our vast EU knowledge about Luke and Palpatine's force powers at the time of ROTJ, to see what would happen in a straight up fight between them. (like suppose vader wasn't there and luke just had to fight palpatine in a duel.)

the ROTJ palpatine had no lightsaber, he just had his force powers

the rotj luke had a combination of his force powers and lightsaber.

Luke was just standing there and he wasn't even prepared to run away from his enemy in a straight up fight. He allowed Palpatine to zap him with force lightning. At the very least, he wasn't prepared for a straight up fight at that point. He refused to fight, to avoid the darkside.

Sidious could just force lightning Luke's lightsaber out of his hand and then TK him to death. And that's just one of the hundred ways Sidious would end this in his sleep. Watch his duel with the brothers and Yoda and do you seriously think Luke could win?

They were desperate. And after watching the prequels, seemed like quite a stupid plan considering Sidious managed to defeat Yoda himself. They were betting on the prophecy to work things out.

While Luke might have already reached his raw power, that does not compensate for lack of skill.

8 years later Luke safely landed himself, starfighter and Gantoris from sky like feathers. In comparison Yoda was struggling a lot with starfigher only and Sidious was falling into pit like he couldn't levitate at all. Yet, when it came to actual combat in the same book, Getzerion Force handled him way too easily.

What is with all the spite Luke threads?

Ye, as if CW mini is not a ridiculously exaggerated source.

I guess that pillar in AotC is far heavier than hundred droids or 4 starships. And Yoda being exhausted after lifting it must be mistaken narration from Kenobi, Anakin or non-present Dooku.

A handful of Jedi of half the power that Mace and Yoda showed in the mini could've solo'd Geonosis, and they had 200 Jedi there, including Mace and much of the council.

That's pretty much what Dave Filoni said when discussing how force powers would be portrayed in TCW.

The CW micro series obviously exaggerated use of the Force.
