People are always saying Nintendo should go third party, when Sony AND Microsoft are both in far worse shape financially. Sony had to sell buildings to make their first profit in 5 years, and Sony AND Microsoft lost a combined $8 billion on the PS3 and 360, respectively.

So why is no one saying Sony and Microsoft will drop out?

Because you are probably using skewed data. Sure, Microsoft and Sony likely lost money when looking solely at the hardware. But that's not where these companies really make their money. They make most of their money on the licensing fees on the games which is a percentage of each game sold on that system.

Microsoft has lost a sh_t ton of money by software and tablets too, they could very well drop out this generation in the Xbone tanks. Much more likely than to have Nintendo dropping if you ask me *shrugs*

Because Nintendo has the 3DS and Wii U, and its games.

Microsoft has Windows platform, Office and hundreds of other things. Server software and its respective Client Access licenses are worth more than money they have lost in hardware. We are not even talking about software support companies pay for.
