I've been looking for a good pirate book to start on (the obvious choice is treasure island, but I'd prefer something a bit more current). I;d like it too have a serious tone, and be mostly fictitious. Any suggestions?

Michael crichton had a book published posthumuosly called Pirate Latitudes, pretty sure thats the name. You might wanna look in on that.
