This is the correct answer.

I think one needs to aim a bit higher smile

Ryoko from Tenchi (and Ryoko Balta from GXP) are significantly more powerful than those.

And Captain Harlock's ship could blow those sea ships out of the water too.

KingD19
Atomsk the Pirate King from Fooly Cooly.

He's so powerful he can steal and manifest entire solar systems at will.

Impediment
Space Pirates from the Metroid franchise.

SSJVegeta
Captain Harlock
Ryoko
The Straw Hat Pirates
Don Karnage
Cervantes de Leon
Dread Pirate Roberts

Galan007
Captain Morgan
Sailor Jerry

TheGodKiller

Yea, he's certainly up there. Above normal-Ryoko even (though 3-gem would likely surpass him).

Q99
The Starjammers from Marvel have a nice ship and some pretty strong members like Polaris and Havok.

NemeBro
If there are any pirates more powerful than Ryoko and Atomsk, I don't know them.

Thanos.

Don't know who Ryoko is but I'd certainly give Thanos the edge over Atomsk.

Thanos is a pirate?

Ryoko's from Tenchi Muyo. She's powered by the gems of Washu, one of the three goddesses of the Tenchi universe and her month. At one gem, how she is in most of the series, she's fairly weak- her and her ship (which draws it's power from her) effortlessly dismantle what's basically a bigger version of the Death Star. Like, she did it while drunk, and instead of firing weapons she just rammed through it a bunch of times to write stuff and draw faces in it's hull. Ryoko's fun like that.

Fully matured and with all three gems, which the creators have released official artwork showing, she's practically a goddess herself and would be universal level.

Also from the Tenchi continuity is Ryoko Balta, who's a normal planet simply named after the former (main-Ryoko is rather a famous figure, being over a thousand years old). She's much more mundane and has a pretty badass, but normal ship.

Thanos is often referred to as a pirate. Yeah.

And, dang, Ryoko seems pretty dang powerful.

NotAllThatEvil
Do saiyans count as pirates? If so, frieza's army.

Edit: Although this Ryoko sounds OP.

Anyone played Rogue Galaxy for PS2? That's all about space pirates.

I'm about to start that soon, I hear there's some cosmic-y force called the Star King that is supposed to be attainable as a form.

NemeBro
Shut up homo.

That game is pretty fun.

When have the Space Pirates from Metroid ever done anything beyond die at Samus' hands?

Srs question. I haven't played any of the Primes.

They're pretty good at stealing and reverse engineering tech. Steal and clone metroids, experiment with dangerous mutagens, blow up planets, that kind of thing. In the manga they had a black hole generator.

They change a bit from every game. Tech they've used include armor, energy blades and shields, cloaking devices, jetpacks/jump jets, EMP grenades, and personal teleporters. Grunts might have a few of those, more elite units like commandos will have all of them.

Pretty tough, but probably not close to the top ten.

NotAllThatEvil
Are we counting the strongest or the deadliest?

They wiped out the Chozo, the species that trained Samus. Iirc they're responsible for the destruction of several planets. They do have some individual badasses too, like Weavel, who's a cyborg fused with a lesser Power Suit.

Mainly the former, but the latter's good too.

Frieza's army was an actual civilization, so most wouldn't... oh, but there were some individual Saiyan and other DB pirates. Bojack, most obviously. Turles from Tree of Might as well.

NemeBro
Bojack is actually a pretty good contender, being above a SSJ and below a SSJ2.

iscaremonkeys
**** every single other pirate in this thread because
