Hmm, not sure about that. Between the fastball special, lightning bolts, Nightcrawler and Banshee, I'd actually say G2 have the long range advantage.

That said, Cyclops' tactics ftw.

Original X-Men, the other team doesn't have very good tp defense. While the original team has two omega level mutants and much better range.
