I heard this as well mad. I can't imagine this having the type of athleticism displayed in the original film, this isn't Expendables where you bring in guys based on star power. At the very least hopefully this brings more sequels for the original franchise. This was a joke poster by mikefrenchy before this remake was revealed:

Yeah, I apparently need to see the first one. I hear good things. It's called The Raid Redemption, yes?

Saw this tonight. A few early action sequences but a slow builder. 2 and a half hours couldn't be filled entirely with action so they built a solid story in the 1st half. Brilliantly shot with great cinematography. Once the action starts it's unrelenting, intense and brutal. Tons of influences worn on its sleeve proudly. Kill Bill, Old Boy, Casino. Even the game Sleeping Dogs. A must see. Puts western cinema action to shame. My only criticism is the car chase was relatively poor. Top drawer stuff in every other aspect. 9/10

Robtard
Awesome, enjoyed the first one, good to hear they didn't shit on the sequel.

Kazenji
One review i've seen for this said its the best action sequel since Terminator 2.

wakkawakkawakka
Now I'm really hyped for this movie now. The first one was dope.

Patient_Leech
I just finished watching the first one. Hot damn, it was fantastic. Some of the most brutal and badass martial arts I've seen in a film. I can't wait to see this one. I doubt it'll come to my city, though...

wakkawakkawakka
Well this flick has finally made it to the states and I have to say: Holy ****ing shit this was awesome. A bit on the long side but awesome. They definitely took this fights up a notch. And here I was on the verge of complementing "Winter Soldier" on its fight choreography. Yeah Raid 2 beats that in spades.

If only other Western directors could get this level of fighting in their flicks.

Lestov16
I am so hyped to see this. This is only playing at one time at my local theater, and I missed today's showing, so tomorrow I'm waking up, bathing, hopping on a bus, and watching Rama go hard in the paint smile

Snafu the Great
Saw it on Friday with a couple of friends. Oh God, was this shit awesome. Rama and The Assassin was one of my favorite fights.

So 1: Most Favorite Fight and 2: Most Brutal Death?

jaden101
The baseball bat stuck in the face was pretty brutal. But the full view, fixed camera shotgun blast to the face puts the one in Punisher: war zone to shame.

The last fight was outstanding but I preferred the ones after the war began. The baseball and subway ones.

wakkawakkawakka
Personally both the last fight and the prison riot stood out for me: the prison riot for me stood out due to me finding out all of the work that the director put into getting the best shots. I agree with the shotgun scene.

However I found thatThe hitman(Mad Dog) was a bit unnecessary. Why flesh him out if he was only going to be in the film for 15 minutes.

Same reason Jackie Chan's "western" movies have always been tame....insurance policies.

Kazenji
Funny that because Gareth Evans is a Welsh director.

Esau Cairn
We're really not on the same wave length, are we Kaz?

Kazenji
Yeah your wave length is in the gutter.

Esau Cairn
Sigh.
If you read my response to Wakka asking why western directors couldn't achieve that level of fighting in their flicks...it's becos Hollywood execs don't like to risk their stars getting injured or doing their own stunts.

Compare early Jackie Chan films that he did in Hong Kong. He did all the extreme stunts himself, constantly injuring himself.
Then the stuff he did in Hollywood became a lot tamer. "Western" directors didn't want to risk their main star hurting himself for insurance purposes.

So Gareth Evans being Welsh has nothing to do with what I was talking about.

jaden101
It does make you wonder what the films would've turned out like if he got his funding in the UK or US to make them. Probably have Jason Statham and be absolute crap.

wakkawakkawakka
Speaking of which I've heard talk about a westernized remake of the first Raid :sigh:

marwash22
that already exists, it's called "Dredd".

yeah I read that somewhere too.

I think Walhberg was mentioned.

Patient_Leech
I saw this last night. Well, I missed the first 10 minutes or so because I had to wait for 15 or 20 minutes at the box office, apparently because some big kid's release just came out (I still am not sure which one, Rio 2 maybe??)

Anyway, yeah, the fight scenes were still pretty impressive here, but I really didn't like this one nearly as much as the first one. I missed the simple, brutal intimacy of the first film.
