okay so we all know the system BBY=before battle of yavin ABY= After Battle of Yavin. BBY starts from big numbers and counts to 0 and ABY starts from 0 and counts up.

So my question is, how did anyone from before the battle of yavin tell what date it was? The obviocely wouldn't use the BBY system because that would imply that everyone in the universe knew of the battle of yavin before it even happened, and that would make sidious's plans stupid because he knows he is going to be defeated. So how did they tell the date?

some great synchronization thing, or the treaty of Coruscant. Something like that.
