Okay so why didn't Sidious do this himself early on in the war? I mean he needed the vote for emergency powers that he would never give up and then he need the jedi gone. A long drawn out war did weaken the jedi order and killed many of the jedi off but really there was no need for a long drawn out war. Order 66 still would have caught the jedi off guard and killed a lot of them off even if he did it in the beginning of the war then the time that the clone wars took up could then be spent hunting down the remaining jedi with his new clone army. And why didn't he walk into the temple himself? He is stronger than any of his apprentices and its not like he needed to keep the fact that he is a sith secret from the counsel. Once the jedi were dead he pretty much had free reign to do what ever he wanted so why did he opt for a long drawn out war?

Emperordmb
He needed to set up justification for his actions and use the war to attain emergency powers.

NTJack0
Would've been a PR nightmare.

Nephthys
Yeah, there's no way he could have gotten away with that. He needed the confusion right at the end of a long, grueling war to pull it off.

Also Dooku would have steamrolled the Republic if he had.

Because it paints him as the villain.
Because Order 66 wasn't passed as a contingency order until later in the war.
Because if he did the Galaxy would just view him as a traitor.
Because there was also the risk that the Jedi would kill him.

Darth Abonis
All of the above and then some. Palpatine is powerful but he wouldn't be able to take on the whole temple himself. That'd be suicide.

The ultimate plan is to rule the galaxy, not killing the jedi. Jedi were guarding the galaxy against the sith so they had to be destroyed but if he just massacred them with no reason, he would loose the support of the republic. the rule of two would be pointless.

Actually the master plan was meant to kill all the jedi and rule the galaxy.

1. the senate is stupi if they don't think vader destroyed the jedi on his order.

2. he immediately goes full tyrant on the entire galaxy

3. the senate couldn't have stopped him from becoming the emperor even if they though he was a shitty guy

4. he openly displays his affiliating with the sith later on, by ordering Vader around

Still not seeing any reason he needed the war

They were already painted at traitors then.

After already establishing full control, which he didn't have earlier in the war.

Yes they could. They had to give him war time power first.

When there are conviently almost no Jedi left.

Well those two things are connected to each other. They could never rule it with jedi in it. So it was to kill the jedi first and then finally rule the galaxy. Why would Sidious destroy the jedi with the cost of giving up his galactic conquest
