Uninformed about Spike's last birthday, somepony gives the baby dragon more than enough gifts that get him back in touch with his greedy side, attracting an orange power ring from the DC Universe, making Twilight's assistant a new addition to the Orange Lantern Corps.
Spike starts off with his new abilities as a pre-teen and like in the episode, Secret of My Excess, he will grow along with notoriety the more he collects and destroys and the bigger he gets, the more greedy he becomes.
The forced combination between Spike's puberty and the ring's cosmic influence has taken a toll on the dragon's mind and is incapable of being reasoned with by even Rarity.
Discord will not be in this for he is on vacation.
Larfleeze won't be able to arrive in their universe to retrieve the ring 'til 24 hours but the ponies don't know that and must do whatever they can.
This is after Season 4 of Friendship is Magic.
