Here's a theory: VOldermort couldn't beat Harry because he was covered in love juices or whatever. But no one loves Maleficent. Also Voldermort is TK as well, he apparates, we've seen him do some pretty impressive stuff. And his style of fighting doesn't use and avoids all forms of physical contact. Maleficent was boring and her most impressive powers were probably moving trees and I doubt that's going to give her the win. She moved men through the air with magic and her wings. Voldermort can do that to with his magic. I fail to see her advantage.
