Yeah, that was my question. It feels like a completely random event, even after reading the full article.

Not sure what there is to discuss. This just seems like flashmob crap.

it sounds to me like they had a riot for the fun of it.

My guess is that some campus spread it as a party destination, and it just spiraled from there. Still seems odd.
