I'd say the troll. Probably similar strength, but the troll is more warlike, a lot of battle experience.

Sorry guys I should have checked before making this. Joe would absolutely kill a troll, maybe even two of them. Joe was 16.5 feet tall, while a Troll from LOTR range between 8-10 feet tall. Joe could probably tear a Trolls arm off, and beat them with it. Thought that they were about the same size.
