Thinking about it, while awkward, maybe he meant this as a litigation match, as Ronan (from the comics) does have intimate knowledge of Kree legal code/law.

But going from the films, Ronan showed no real lawyering ability, so Prof. Callahan litigates Ronan's ass into oblivion.
