Time Immemorial
Why the sudden rise in Police crutality and coverage by the media?

Because now that it's so blatantly obvious due to body cams, dash cams, personal cameras/phones as well as the cops just not giving a shit if they get caught, or doing the illegal thing and trying to confiscate video evidence(which you can't do), they can't just ignore it.

It could be that the ability to get evidence of it is easier.

Perhaps it is because it has become a problem that needs wide spread coverage.

Perhaps the media has a bias against police officers

Perhaps people are speaking out against it more

Or it could be that it is a ratings generator.

It could some mixture of some or all of the above.

Pretty much this, technology and how news/info is distributed now.

Had an assignment in school today and a question was asked about the future of computers. Answered it won't bode well for police as once their are equipped with body cameras and dash board cams, it is going to be difficult to justify to maim and murder folks. And after a few years a sort of Darwinian approach will force out the macho tough guy knucklehead cop as their dispostion will be seen as antagonistic and a huge part of the problem and cops who emphasize a de escalating approach will be taking over. Got some harsh looks from my classmates that this will only happen after more riots like Ferguson in the years coming up before that transition happens. They were not too pleased with the comment.

I agree, the jig is up for dirty azz cops and those who try to protect them are no better of a cop.
