According to the latest reports, it's actually a Marshall Islands flagged ship.

Still, it's a dangerous provocation and it's bound to cause a shitstorm if the ship isn't released soon. It's likely retaliation for the US turning back an Iranian convoy that was heading for Yemen.

The story just changed, as you watch the video, the reporter had to change what she said on the fly cause it was initially reported as US. She even slipped up on camera...

US forces are "monitoring" the situation, but at the moment there's insufficient cause for any further actions. The ship has been taken into Iranian waters, so any rescue attempt would amount to an invasion of Iran, which America clearly has no interest in doing at the moment.

My guess is that Iran will hold the ship and its crew hostage for a few weeks, some obviously coerced confessions will come out from the crew about how they're "sorry" for "violating Iranian sovereignty" and Iran will release the ship and crew, then this whole incident will just become another little blip in the troubled history of Iran's relations with the outside world.

I hope the Republic of the Marshall Islands declares war on Iran.
