DS1 has tighter controls. DS1 levels all are logical and continuous, except for the DLC and Painted World. Anor Londo and the Duke's Archives are semi-detached. I can get all materials and embers for a +15 weapon in DS1 before the Gargoyles, Taurus Demon and Queelag. I feel backstanbs and parries have better timing and windows of use in DS1 (though backstabs are a bit too easy). The stats in DS1 are clearer and more logical. Poise works much better in DS1 without hyper-armor. Stamina depletion and regeneration is superior imo in DS1.

DS1 doesn't let you play dress-up as well though. So it's worse.

They seemed a bit too clean for the Souls-verse.

The health bars, stamina bar, even the way ANY of your characters look.

The enemies.

Well, the combat is supposed to be a mixture of Bloodborne and Dark Souls 1.

More fast-paced then the original at least.

Hope we get some cool spells.

There are rarely ANY games that allow us to use a glowing sword. If this game does, then it's mine.

No, its a Soul Greatsword, you swing it and it comes out AS you swing.

Funny how Dark Souls is such a success, while Armored Core is stuck in the overlooked "niche" category.

I'm by no means a robot enthusiast, but AC in the PSX and early PS2 era had gameplay every bit as great as souls. Only, with robots.

I can't wait for this, Bloodborne was great, but it's lack of loot and lackluster PVP couldn't hold my interest as long as the Souls games could.

Any info on the overall difficulty?

Will it be harder then DS2?

I played 1 after 2 and thought it was super easy compared to the 2nd.

The only fights that gave me trouble were the dlc ones with the hex spells.

I think Dark Souls 2 was the hardest as well, but that was because I didn't master it to the same degree as the other games.

The hardest boss in terms of asses kicked was the gargoyles in Dark Souls 1. I went at them over and over for like 7 hours straight. It was my own fault though because I didn't try leveling up or getting a better weapon or something.

So the actual hardest boss would have to be that ****er Raime. I fought him at the top of my game and he still whooped me.

It's hard to tell which Souls is hardest, because after you've beaten one of them your skill is increased so the next one is easier. So I guess the hardest Souls is whichever one is your first.

Failing that, its the ****ing Fume Knight.

Edit: Ruin Sentinels were balls hard as well.

For those who've done it, how difficult and fun is a caster build?

I've always gone nearly pure melee and am thinking about shaking things up this time.

Once you get enough spells you'll be a tank.

In DS1 with the strongest spells you could 2 shot like every boss in the game.(hex/dark spells were the most powerful.)

In DS2 with the strongest spell (forgot the name that big soul arrow barrage)


You could kill the strongest bosses in 4-6 shots even after a couple ng+ es.


Outside that single spell hex was still the best way to go.(Some magic did drain minimal life though.)
With hex stats later you could use every spell ,miracle and pyro stuff.

I think it's fun I always play as a mage though.

Play 1 to completion before you even think of buying 3 would be my opinion.

DS2 was a different kind of difficult than 1. DS2 seemingly just tried to harass and annoy you to death with it's enemy placement. DS1 had a bit more of a "logical" design with it's enemies and levels. Boss wise, DS1 was far superior. The only boss I didn't mash like a flea in DS2 was Raime.

TBH, after a certain level, and mastery of the game mechanics they all become relatively easy from a certain perspective.

They use mana. And you can change estus flasks to either replenish health or mana.

The new M.P. bar is called F.P. (focus points) and is also used for Sword Arts. So it's no longer useless to people who don't use spells.

At least this way we wont have to put in a spell multiple times.
In order to use it more but now they will drain the same bar instead of being handled separately.

We shall see how this turns out....mmm

I'm honestly not surprised. Discord was streaming for over 24 hours straight and he avoided pretty much every enemy he could just to get through the game.

Watched few of the boss fights maybe 8-10.
They didnt seem that tough....

Some look pretty tough most of them seem easy however.

19? Thats kind of low. Bloodborne had 29 in vanilla, with the DLC adding another 5.

DS2 had 41 including DLCs.

DS1 had 26 and 12 mini bosses.

Definitely. I tried playing the first DaS when it first came out on PC, but the amount of hackers just completely ruins any PVP or co-op.

19 main and 6 mini ones.

Minibosses you run into in the world don't count IMO, they're part of the mobs

Lulz just checked a walkthrough cause I was curious how many times can you cast soul arrow or heavy soul arrow with the new mana system from the begin.
Guy was able to set off 1 soul arrow and 6 heavy ones and mana was still at half.

I think you can use 24 normal or 12 heavy in this case.(Might be wrong though)

Still that's a pretty strong starter set.Imo

Way better then in Ds1 or 2 as far as I can remember.

Also in the first 15 minutes you can also get 2 blue estus each fills up about 70% of the mana bar.

The new design of Profaned Flame looks neat!

I'm also considering the Cleric because as of now the extra points in Vitality don't seem that helpful.

I watched a few game play vids and it looks like leveling up is going to be difficult as souls gained were low. I hope FromSoft makes a change to increase souls gained.

To me, it looks more like the guy sucks at the game, rather than the hexes being under powered.

Kind of, I haven't used my hex build in a minute. Either way, he was just standing there like a boob while the other guy was dodging it, instead of putting pressure on him and trying to get a few hits in, while also hampering your opponents ability to dodge the spell.

What class will you start as?

I haven't decided my build yet, I always start with Deprived so I don't waste any stats I don't want. I usually start with a typical sword and board style, then I branch out when I get more comfortable with the mechanics.

I'll probably go for the Estoc instead of the Washing Pole. It seems more reliable.

There are a number of problems with a so-called hexer in this game.

Casting speed relies on Dexterity, meaning that in order to be an effective caster you pretty much have to invest heavily in Dexterity. You then need to divide your levels into both Intelligence and Faith to access more than a few hex-spells, meaning that you'll do very little damage with either. And that's not accounting for Attunement, Vigor and Endurance you'll be needing, or the Strength requirements for your weapons.

It seems more like the hex-spells were added as an elemental variety to the three casting classes.

Actually, I've made up my mind. I'm going with a Estoc Havel-Shield build.

Level: 100

Vigor: 44

Attunement: 6

Endurance: 20

Vitality: 11

Strength: 40

Dexterity: 40

Intelligence: 8

Faith: 9

Luck: 11

Ign gives it a 9,5....niiiiceeee.

Dark Souls 2 was a great game. Maybe not as good overall as DS1 but I enjoyed the pvp much more. So much more variety and Fashion. I also really liked some of the mechanics they introduced in DS2.

That being said, can't wait for DS3.

I've been invading non-stop since I got my Red Eye orb...god it's fun gankspanking.

I rarely PvP but yesterday I got in a 3v3. Absolute chaos but a lot of fun.

So what do you guys think is it harder then DS2?

I just killed the Abyss Watchers they were fairly easy.

I mixed up sorcerer with a bit of meele.Using uchigatana+4 hence the low strength.Currently SL 61

Im using a ring that buffs my damage on full health.The magic enhance crown and some spells to keep my katana strong.
With a magic weapon and deep protection I can add another +80 so Im pretty happy with it.

For example a normal backstab for me does around 390 damage with the extra stuff it does 480.

Im pretty surprised that great heavy soul arrow costs almost as much fp as heavy yet it does like a 100 extra damage.

Think Im gonna explore a bit now and get back to proceeding later.
