Looks like DC are finally going ahead with it. I'd be amazed if Hammill doesn't come back to play the Joker.

After the hullabaloo with the Batgirl cover, it's going to be interesting to see if this garners any negative press, though I would hope not. It's a seminal story.

BruceSkywalker
one of my fave batman stories.. this i shall buy and watch constantly

Kazenji
Wonder how much of it will stick to the graphic novel.

Galan007
Hopefully it's made in the same, non-kid-friendly, hue that The Dark Knight Returns I-II were.

AlmightyKfish
Didn't Hammill say somewhere that even though he was retiring from The Joker if they ever made TKJ he'd come back for that? I vaguely remember an interview where he said something along those lines.

Either way, done right this could be great.

I'm really glad they're not letting it be censored. Really looking forward to it.

Can't wait for this, Kevin Conroy returning as Batman, Mark Hamill as joker and it's R rated...**** yes.

Kazenji
Most likely be MA 15+ in my country.

Happy birthday.

Would be nice that if this does good it could hopefully open the gate to other R Rated DC Toons getting made....and maybe some about Non Batman characters as well..

Dc seems timid in green lighting characters that arent in some way relatednto bruce

Galan007
Glad to see this got an "R" rating.

I have High hopes that it will be great, tbh.

Not a fan of the animation, but the story and voice acting alone should really make it shine.

It's hard to when they're by far the most popular of DC's gallery. It just takes time, I imagine.

I was underwhelmed by this, to say the least... sad

Maybe my expectations were too high going in, being a huge fan of the comic..? Dunno. Just wasn't feeling this at all.

Was it as bad as Year One, then?

I guess it's still worth seeing at least once because of that scene shown in abhi's gif? haermm

Galan007
I actually liked Year One more, tbh.

The gif he posted is the entire scene... You've already seen the whole thing. wink

StiltmanFTW
Typical of abhi, spoiling the best part. Sigh.

I just finished watching it. The first half hour or so, basically the whole Batgirl prequel... It's the low point of the movie. Yes, the whole thing. Once the Joker comes in to it and we get the actual Killing Joke, it was all right.

Still was hoping it would be darker, though.

lol, what little sex scene you see is pretty tame.

Anyone hear about how some guy challenged Azzarello about it at SDCC? It was funny and sad, in the sense that Azzarello called him a pussy after writing such a terrible opening to the movie.

Impediment
I saw it tonight in the theater.

Not bad, but not good. Just....okay.

It felt so underdone.

The opening with that gangster guy and Batman trying to keep Barb Way dragged for so ****ing long. She also seems to be incredibly incompetent in combat, I mean she got owned by that guy. Bruce also seemed much weaker at least in the DCAU shows he would've put her ass down, but no because he's in love he doesn't show any authority and instead she gets gassed and nearly dies. The Joker scenes were of course amazing with the flashback scenes and final theme park scenes being worthy of his Legacy as a character. But yeah the scene with Barb and the gangsters sucked up way too much time, and while the ending scenes are amazing it came a little too late. I also expected this to be much darker, and while it was at certain points this was tame as **** for an R rating.

6.5/10

Robtard
Enjoyed the animation and the nod to the style of Batman: The Animated series, but the story was weak, after about 20-30 mins I found myself bored. Big letdown.

steverules_2
Me and my friend are debating whether Batman killed joker

BruceSkywalker
should I buy

cherry cola
Underwhelmed given the R rating the movie got, actually some of the previous Batman movies felt darker to me. I agree the gangster story felt too long. In these movies were use to Batman beating the hell outa the bad guys we didn't get that here.

I wouldn't, but if you do, skip the first half hour. Do yourself a favour.

Kazenji
Still haven't brought it myself

thinking of just sticking with the graphic novel.

Galan007
In hindsight, that's what I would do. /shrug

Seems like DC & Warners recent rotten luck with features has now crept over to their animated ones.

They put in this brand new, early extra half hour devoted to Barbara as Batgirl which has nothing to do with the rest of the plot - this is the Joker's story, not hers - just to try & get around the fact she becomes the typical 'Woman In Refrigerator' later. They failed, because it doesn't change what Joker does later. It's like they were trying to apologize for it in advance of something.

Darth Thor
Rented it. Didn't mind the first 20mins everyone's complaining about.

Also what happened at the end? Was thinking either Joker got Batman with his laughing gas, or Batman went slightly mad before killing J

Digital rent. Why would I buy it when the reviews from fans haven't exactly been spectacular?

Trying to stop illegal downloads. Digital Renting's the way to go.

It's a shame TKJ didn't live up to its hype. Still need to see it, but damn, everyone keeps saying the same thing.

basilisk
The opening 25 minutes were bland, not exactly terrible (except for the sudden batsex scene that came out of nowhere), but they seemed like the prologue to an entirely different story - here they came across as pointless filler. It's unfortunately pretty typical of current writers to stick in this sort of by-the-numbers back story even where it isn't in any way required.

I noticed amongst the various reviews that some female reviewers complained Batgirl doesn't have a strong enough part, entirely missing the point that it wasn't in any way a Batgirl story, it's about Batman and Joker. The prologue didn't help with that.

TKJ isn't at all one of my favorite Alan Moore stories or DC stories, but I think it could have been done better than this. I haven't been impressed with a lot of the DC animated fare since the nDCU came in.

StiltmanFTW
I know it has a bad rep for not matching the original, but I liked it.

Wish Marvel could get back into the animation game. They're so far behind DC in that department, it's not even funny.
