Both characters have had massive write-ups recently, who is the top dog of the mid meta tier?

Not really, he let her beat on him. He didn't fight back.

He did fight Superman with the Godkiller, but ultimately lost because of super speed. He also got punched by Wonder Woman and Lepatus and was sent flying, but didn't actually KO Slade. He's been pretty beastly lately.

Yeah. Slade mentions how fast he was just before being grabbed by the neck. All the same, Slade didn't do too badly in that short confrontation.
