Lol, VW will never love this down. I hope their conglomerate fails and all the companies they acquired go back to their counties of origin. We can't have VW destroying the environment anymore.

Ascendancy
Chose an article on this to summarize for one of my classes. VW may be devastated beyond repair by this depending on how payouts are handled.
http://www.nytimes.com/2015/10/03/business/us-states-jumping-into-investigation-of-vw-emissions-deception.html

Currently over 30 states--30 in a coalition, plus seemingly California and Texas acting separately--have entered a joint investigation headed by their attorney generals. This is on top of the federal government's pending actions and litigation, individual lawsuits, and France, Germany, and other EU powers taking action against them. There really may be nothing left in the end depending on how damages and penalties are structured against the company.

Good luck with that. You know you don't need to, and probably shouldn't announce reporting people, it just brings a hostility into it that makes threads go off topic.

Luckily I want to discuss the VW scandal, as well as other auto-maker scandals, like GM and Ford.

Really there just needs to be more corporate oversight into the kinds of dangerous things companies do. It also ties in with things like the Exxon Valdez spill or the more recent BP spill. Big corporations, regardless of country, need to be held accountable, I wish you'd agree, but you don't care if it is American owned companies.

Yeah, of course you care what BP did...since it's British. You just turn a blind eye when it's American, which is pathetic. Additionally you bring up Hitler in every thread I'm in so we already do that.

Good point about these things being a wake up call though. Personally I'm hoping this paves the way for electric (and perhaps hybrid or hydrogen) vehicles. It's going to be interesting to see how VW reacts, and what the consequences will be for it.

This just popped into my head, it's only tangentially related (I explain how below), but this is a really terrific podcast about why the Red Cross is not well liked by US service men.

http://www.npr.org/sections/money/2012/07/13/156737801/the-cost-of-free-doughnuts-70-years-of-regret

The part that I was thinking about is how they talk about "categorical change", and how I think that while this is a huge scandal for Volkswagen, it's not a categorical change, i.e. we really latently expect to be screwed by large companies, so when it happens, it doesn't fundamentally change our view of them. Again though, fantastic podcast.
