So I read the Manga Until Death do us part and thought it was really interesting. I was wondering if Mamoru Hijikata was based on Mamoru Chiba from Sailormoon and Toshizo Hijikata of the Shinsengumi? I've already gathered that he is a homage to Zatoichi but the names Mamoru and Hijikata stuck out.
