Time-Immemorial
What do people here think defines succees when it relates to politician success?

Politician?

There likely isn't one thing. Being elected is certainly one indicator; a necessary one, I'd contend. But it doesn't include effectiveness in office. And at that point, are we talking about number of bills passed? Or their success in meeting their ends? And then we have to define success of an action/law/etc. which will change depending on what it is. Crime-related, health care, education, etc. Everyone will have a different idea of success for each of those, and there's no sliding scale for any of them to say "this was a 67% success." But most initiatives aren't zero-sum, so the truth is somewhere in that middle ground.

The whole concept is likely just for historians looking for a narrative, or modern political pundits looking for a angle to push a particular agenda. In the moment, it's probably impossible to define, and only marginally easier (see also: still probably impossible) in retrospect.

It's probably possible, to throw this thread a bone. Problem is, it would require deep, deep analysis and likely decades worth of context. And a reasonably unbiased perspective on the politician, which is hard to find.

In a country where the populous demographic is continuously changing success can be defined as reaching a dream and obtaining it.
