Why do people think Vader not wanting to kill Luke somehow makes Luke's victory less impressive? It's not like Vader wanted to lose. And the idea of RotS Kenobi defeating Luke of all people easily is retarded.

You think he wanted to kill Luke?

I'm sure what he wanted was for Luke to turn to the dark side so they could rule the galaxy as father and son. However the novel makes explicit that he was certainly prepared to kill Luke, and was going all out to demonstrate as such.

So as far as him holding back is concerned, he wasn't.

That's fine. I just wanted to clarify that being prepared to kill him is a very different thing to wanting to kill him.
