North Korea warns against U.S., South Korea military exercises: http://news.yahoo.com/north-korea-warns-against-u-south-korea-military-124927417.html

So, given that the United States and South Korea are about to conduct the largest military drill(s) ever conducted between them, it's pretty obvious that North Korea would feel very threatened. But would they actually go so far as to nuke South Korea and the United States if they feel that cornered?

'It said its first target would be South Korea's presidential Blue House, while U.S. military bases in Asia and on the U.S. mainland would be its secondary targets. About 28,500 U.S. troops are based in South Korea.'

Not unless they have a death wish

Remind me why we are doing large military exercises with South Korea?

Anyways those in North Korea who are in charge definitely aren't playing with a full deck. So it's hard to say what they'd do. This is the same country where some of the people believe the leader is legitimately magic.

Ultimately I think it boils down to how threatened the N. Koreans should feel about attacking us.

If they are crazy enough to believe we won't or can't wipe them off the face of the world for doing so then anything is possible.

Still the leaders have to have some semblance of self preservation and a desire to stay in power so I hope this is an incredibly unlikely scenario.

Surtur
Lets just hope the leaders don't believe their own hype.

Newjak
Yeah if they honestly believe they can magically keep themselves safe after attacking us then we have huge problems already.

Flyattractor
I wouldn't put it past Little Kimmy. Granted he will probably fire the first salvo at his own people....probably for having the same haircut as him.

Surtur
The other problem is the leaders wouldn't even necessarily need to believe their own hype. I'm sure there is a chance they have access to some kind of underground bunker that could protect them from a nuke.

Maybe but even in that case how does it help them to survive if their entire power structure is destroyed?

They also have to be certain we don't know about these bunkers.

Surtur
I think they potentially believe they could wipe out the rest of the world with nukes and then rebuild from the ashes.

I wouldn't be surprised if the leader didn't think he could survive a nuke, but if he thought he could easily survive the radioactive fallout.

I suppose if they were smart they'd try to nuke people in a way that makes them think someone other then NK did it. But then they aren't smart.

Yep. I was in kunsan for a year. Those exercises are fun as hell and the rok special forces are no joke

'The top U.S. military commander in South Korea said Tuesday that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un would use a weapon of mass destruction if he thought the fate of his rule was at stake.

If he "thought his regime were challenged he states that he would use WMD," Gen. Curtis Scaparrrotti, commander of U.S. Forces Korea, told the Senate Armed Services Committee Tuesday.'

It's odd than when N Korea tests a missile it's considered antagonistic yet when the US and S Korea conduct huge military training exercises specifically aimed at N Korea it's not considered antagonistic.

|King Joker|
The exercises are usually in response to North Korea's missile testing / rhetoric. I think they're pretty necessary.

North Korea wouldn't get away with jack if China didn't back them, using them like a bargaining chip when they want something from the USA. Every time they shriek about war being imminent, I roll my eyes and go back to sleep. It's a crybaby act for attention.

If North Korea launched one at us, Obama would never retaliate with one back.

I think it's generally accepted that those drills are antagonistic, but given the permanent North Korean military buildup along the border, it's not like they're not warranted.

Obama would never launch a nuke at anyone, does not matter what state it hit. Especially if it came from Iran or N. Korea.

You don't actually believe that, do you?

Time-Immemorial
Why would he?

Omega Vision
That you even asked that question makes me doubt your sanity.

Time-Immemorial
Why would he nuke them? Because they nuked us?

If we nuked North Korea back, what would China do. We may have a nuke exchange with them. Not wanting to be left out, Putin nukes everybody's asses.

Which is preciously why Obama would not send nukes back.

Obama would take the L for America.

He wants to be remembered as the no war president, even though even that is pretty much a falsehood.

North Korea is a like a little brat sticking out his tongue at South Korea and America only because their border is so close to the China boarder.

China isn't backing them up its just if we hit North Korea there might be a chance we hit china and china is that big kid we don't want to his on accident.

Kim Jong Un is like the equivalent of a 5-year-old finding his dad's gun collection.

In terms of Nukes.

He'd be really ****ing stupid if he dared tried to Nuke anywhere.

Especially the United States, because we have Nukes that can legit destroy NK.

Kim Jong Un might be insane, though. If he is insane and/or he believes in his own god-hype perpetrated by N. Korean socialist propaganda, he's unpredictable and can do stupid sh*t.

Time-Immemorial
Obama doesn't have the balls to Nuke anyone.
