List your Top 5 most powerful "Monsters"
Criteria-
- from DC or Marvel
- not looking for Demons, Gods, Abstracts, etc. Too easy.
- but can be of Extradimensional origin. Example, Trogg from Thor/Ulik story.
- must be "physical", not looking for sentient galaxies, or conscious clouds of...whatever.
- nothing planet-sized or larger.

Prof. T.C McAbe
1. HP Doomsday
2. Vaidus
3. World Breaker Hulk
4. Solomon Grundy

A Monstrous weapon befitting a monster, that also serve as a natural predator to the Mummandrai. Meaning it hunts and eats up a Cassandra Nova.

Not for me.
Alec Holland is a man IN a monster's body, like Ben Grimm.
Man-Thing is a man who was turned INTO a monster.
Thats my take on it.

I'm surprised Devil Dinosaur hasnt been picked, even by me. I didnt even think of him till hours later. If pressed i'd replace Fin Fang Foom with DD. Those monster wrestling trunks on FFF though, are hard to beat.

Swamp Thing, for me.

And riv, Imma stop you there. Swamp Thing is a heap of vegetable matter that THINKS it's a man.

Imma stop you right there stopping me, and say we agree to disagree, for what is the measure of a man?

Not - How did he die? But - How did he live?
Not - What did he gain? But - What did he give?

These are the things that measure the worth
Of a man as a man, regardless of birth.

Not - What was his station? But - had he a heart?
And - How did he play his God-given part?

Was he ever ready with a word of good cheer?
To bring back a smile, to banish a tear?

Not - What was his church? Not - What was his creed?
But - Had he befriended those really in need?

Not - What did the sketch in the newspaper say?
But - How many were sorry when he passed away?

These are the things that measure the worth
Of a man as a man, regardless of birth.

Or, you know, we could totally argue about this for a couple pages, like true comic book fanboys. stick out tongue

As a kid i was afraid of Guy Smiley:

He was the most human of all the Sesame Street characters, but, yeah he totally made me have nightmares.

Galan007
Frankenstein
Validus
Swamp Thing
Omega(from LoSH)
Doomsday

It's a shame you limited to just DC and Marvel. There's some Indie comics have some pretty sick creatures.

Galan007
Not sure why I didn't think about him initially, but: Bizarro.

leonidas
godzilla (was in marvel for a short time so he should count....)
dracula
wendigo
etrigan
frankenstein

i have a feeling i'm forgetting something..... maybe i'll think of it later.

riv6672
Godzilla definitely counts. Thats why i picked him. stick out tongue

So, the ban on non-Marvel and DC comic book monsters is hereby ABOLISHED!!

Let monsters of all different universes find fun, friendship and acceptance in this thread!!

(That is, of course, as long as they meet all other remaining criteria.) Because, well, the other monsters are just... Well, "different".

And, as we all know, things that are "different", should always face strict intolerance.

So, let it be done.

ShadowFyre
Godzilla from Marvel. Stalemates Avengers, one shots Hulk and whipped classic Ben Grimm when shrunk to rat size. And he is already King

Mangog
Doomsday

His soul resides in the most ferocious carnivore in the Korbinite empire which was further enhanced through bio-engineering.
That be a monster. Plus most folks who meet him for the first time are almost always startled by his features.

I see that some questions seem to be popping up concerning the criteria that would be involved for a character to be considered a "monster". And, to be honest, after creating this thread I immediately had the same questions.

So, let's throw some ideas around.

What details would have to be present for a character to be officially listed as a "Monster"?
I was thinking...

1. Unique- if the creature is simply a member of a "monstrous" race / species, it would not be a monster. Unless the creature is mutated, altered, etc, in such a way that sets it apart, even from it's own monstrous race / species.

2. Appearance- a character that has all "human" features, even if somewhat strange or frightening, should not be considered a "monster", imho. There must be features present, that set it apart from the "human" form.

I will stop there and see if anybody else has an opinion on this.

No one mentioned Infinity Thrall? I'm surprised.

A limited self awareness/intelligence?
Not saying the character has to be stupid, just the opposite; the character should have an animal cunning if anything.
Hulk speak at most.
The character shouldnt be able to quote byron and Shelley.

The character shouldnt be able to quote byron and Shelley. that would disqualify classic monster royalty, such as Fin Fang Foom, Xemnu and Mangog. Know what i mean?

Wouldnt that thing be more along the lines of an "Abstract Entity"? Or, even a "multi-abstract", since it embodies foundation components of the universe?

What do u think?

What about Battle Beast? Would he qualify?

Thats why i framed it in the firm of a question.
I'm not rock solid on that one, just throwing it out there as a talking point.

I guess this has never really been hashed out before.

riv6672
Yeah, its one reason i dont consider Swamp Thing a monster. He seems human to me. But you're right in that my description is flawed.
