Supporting repressive Arab regimes that don't hate us as much as terrorists is unfortunately an American tradition.

Time-Immemorial
All of 9/11 hijackers were Saudi's

They commit more terrorism against us then anyone else.

And why is Obama still doing this?

He is supporting Iran who wants to kill us more then the Saudi's.

How does this make any sense?

That's a result of Saudi Arabia's society. Their government's ideology is basically a slightly watered down form of ISIS, so it's no surprise so many of their citizens get radicalized.

Time-Immemorial
Yet we are giving them weapons and advanced war fighting machines to keep other Arab nations down, then bomb us through terrorism.

This is down right idiotic. Sure we can blame whoever but why the hell is Obama allowing this when he has signed them over billions in weapons?

Here's the unfortunate thing: none of the current candidates would do anything different with regards to SA than Obama's doing. MAYBE Sanders, but that's a big maybe.

Money and power in the region; this deal has been going on since the 40's

If you want to break from Saudi Arabia then you have to break reliance on Saudi oil. Although my guess is they'll just do their oil for weapons deals with China instead.

Saudi Arabia is thee main proponent of extreme Wahhabism around the world. Their deal with Belgium in the 70s included the funding of a mosque that ended up the place where all home grown fundamentalism started in Belgium.

You want to weaken and destroy Islamic extremism? Bankrupt Saudi Arabia then force regime change.

But that won't happen so long as profit reigns supreme.

It's a unfortunate consequence of the US and UK backing and establishing Saudi Arabia as a main power in the region to fight communism, with whom we basically now have to keep up good relations with because they have a huge amount of the oil we use.

It's hypocritical but there's not a huge amount that can really be done whilst the West relies on the oil produced.

A long term shift from oil/petroleum to other forms of energy (renewable, nuclear) would probably slowly shift the balance of power, but that's obviously really long term.

It also doesn't help that if Saudi Arabia's regime changed it could either become even more radical (although they do promote Wahhabism the current leader is a relative modernizer) or more moderate. But could also completely change the balance of power in the region, which would potentially even more disruptive and lead to worse things.

But essentially, oil and relative stability is why everyone continues to support the Saudi government.

Money Over Bitches is the official White House motto. It's the original mob.

We don't really even buy much oil from them though. Almost all of America's oil actually comes from the Western hemisphere (domestic, Canadian, Venezuelan). The issue is that as a major producer and supplier of oil, Saudi Arabia has a huge influence on oil prices.

I think it has to do with SA and Iran hating each other. Anything that try's to destabilize SA is threatening the economic world we live in today, with the dollar and oil being linked. This helped America send money to rebuild Europe from WW 2.
