Demonic Phoenix
Neat.

Supposed to be a PS4K launch title.

Kazenji
I'd rather them not use Kratos again, Create a new character for that role.

dika123
it's like legend of zelda without link then. anyway sony has huge variation of the games. so it's fine if this game has a sequel

Nah, Kratos was badass in previous GoW Games. I still wants to see him kick a$$es

Anyway Dika, Nice topic. I want to see what happen in GoW 4 when i want to pass out GoW Ascension

quanchi112
I never played Ascension was it that bad ?

CosmicComet
No Ascension wasn't bad at all.

It has the best graphics of the series and the combat is more fluid.

It's just not as epic as GoW3.

dika123
yeah.. the story is short compared to GOW 3 but still great and there are multiplayer content

Impediment
GOW3 was epic on all levels.

Ascension was good, but not great, IMO.

Personally, I don't want Kratos to come back. His background is established as a Greek demigod. Assuming he survived after the ending of GOW3, how or why would he go after the pantheon of Norse gods?

I've seen a girl who played GoW Ascension

cdtm
7.8 isn't bad.

No such thing as a bad GOW game. Personally though, I'd rather see something like Shadow of Colossus 2, we have enough GOW's.

Imagine what kind of colossi modern hardware could render.

ares834
Shadow of Colossus 2... droolio

But i think GoW ascension wasn't bad as DmC Devil May Cry

Not really. DMC's reboot's Dante is a crap

I was really good at the multiplayer on Ascension.

It was one of my favorite multiplayer console experiences, finally a populated thriving multiplayer game that wasn't an FPS.

I barely played any of the story.

dika123
i have been shares my ideas to cory barlog and he likes it big grin

CosmicComet
What ideas?

dika123
my ideas that he likes it :

10 Apr: @corybarlog you also should make long and interesting story forget about bonus costume or whatever just focus to gameplay, graphics, story

19 Mar: @corybarlog please bring this puzzle back in the next gow game 😀 pic.twitter.com/yyp2nyFqrq

17 Mar: @corybarlog you should combine every attack moves in god of war ascension multiplayer into one weapon in next gow game wink

15 Mar: @corybarlog kratos travel to another dimension and destroying evil gods from another myth.

15 Mar: @corybarlog kratos got the power where he can turn into being with armor which i already tweet to you before big grin

9 Mar: @corybarlog My ideas: exoskeleton suit + magic armor + greek armor with small robotic tentacles + small flying auto weapons on his back. smile

I would say the combat took a step back as far as fluidity goes, espcially in regards to the core combos and blocking/parrying.

I've had enough of kratos. I grew up loving this series but by the last game his character was far to one dimensional. I couldn't finish the 3rd game because I grew tired of the character. The gameplay was still fun but I was actively rooting against kratos from the beginning.

dika123
meh kratos still awesome. look gow ascension if you re say kratos is one dimensional characters

Adam Grimes
I'm not sure I'd take the word of someone who talks like Hulk regarding a character's deepness.

Also, Kratos got annoying during and after GoW 2 for me.

Nusa105
and also, i hope Kratos is still badass as same as he was before

SO MUCH HYPE

Khazra Reborn
The combat looks way different.

Demonic Phoenix
So, the gameplay drops hints (red herrings?) that the kid is going to take over from Kratos, but Barlog has stated that the playable character is Kratos. I wonder if Barlog's lying, or the kid is a companion that you level up.

Or the kid's name is Kratos as well. no expression

Also, barring the Kojima appearance, I don't think anything else at E3 was met with as much hype as God of War and Kratos' appearance.

ares834
This looks ridiculously bad ass. And the new combat style will undoubtedly freshen things up. Sadly, this is the only thing that has impressed me at E3 so far. But man am I looking forward to it.

Kratos got a Stone Cold Steven Austin like pop from the crowd when he stepped out of the shadows.

dika123
and also this isn't reboot. developer said this game takes place after GOW 3

CosmicComet
Yeah that was clear from the vid anyway.

Kratos' belly scar is still there, he wears a metal omega symbol on his back, and he has a 'Spartan Rage' mode.

Still Haven't finished the 3rd game, But i've looked up it had a post credits scene Something about where his body use to be is no longer there showing a blood trail.

Nibedicus
God of War: Last of Us it looks like. stick out tongue

Loved LoU as much as (more than, actually) GoW so am actually really hyped about it.

Edit. Although the "I-I'm so sorry" kid acting was kinda off.

dika123
and know we need disscuss this more detail. we need god of war 4 guide and art book or any information we can get.

and also i believe God of War 3 novel will come out next year.

hmm based on this video that axe looks cool. i think it has some freezing abilities

CosmicComet
Cory called Kratos an immortal demi-god that is now trying to change.

So it looks like maybe hundreds of years may have passed since God of War 3.

dika123
hmm.. so how kratos survive after event of gow3 ?

and is kratos still 8.5 feet tall ?

Seriously? Nothing else did it? Deus Ex, Dishonored 2, For Honor, Horizon Dawn, FF XV, Watch Dogs 2, South Park & Insomniac's Spider-Man all got me hyped. There was also Lawbreakers and Observer at the PC show.

Only wish they had had some more FF7 remake videos. That blew everyone away last year.

Same here. Hopefully, it's just Carson having a bad sore-throat, but yeah, they've changed voice actors for Kratos. sad

There's also a bit of Asura's Wrath in there. Fight doesn't end until he activates Spartan Rage, and he had to fill the gauge during the fight.

Impediment
I can't fathom why T.C. Carson wouldn't reprise the role that made him famous.

CosmicComet
Maybe they didn't want to bring TC Carson back, because then the trailer would have immediately given away that it was Kratos before he stepped out the shadows.

Instead, they had a voice that sounded different enough to make you question it.

Anyway, I really, REALLY hope we aren't escorting the kid through most of the game, ala the Last of Us.

That automatically means the fights will have to be less epic and smaller in scale, because there is no way you are going to be able to fight something the size of a mountain like in the old games, while a fragile kid is in tow. That would not be believable at all.

That being said, I am optimistic that this won't be totally like the last of us. The concept art that got leaked a few months ago, showed Kratos wandering alone for all of them.

So glad they didn't do a reboot though.

Looks like you are out of luck. There is a button solely for context-sensitive actions by the kid.

And apparently the game is about passing knowledge onto the kid. Kratos might be getting replaced.

dika123
nope. since his father is immortal so i believe the kid would become allies of kratos. it's like thor and odin relationship

and actually the knowledge is for kratos

and also cory barlog said "This game is about Kratos teaching his son how to be a god, and the kid teaching Kratos how to be human again."

dika123
well we are smart people on this forum should understand if kratos power isn't only come from the in-game. i Believe there are some crazy feats in this game. since this gow should takes place in another dimension.

I saw that but I'm still cautiously optimistic because he also reassured us in the same statement that the game will still be epic in scale like we've come to expect.

They simply went with a more intimate, character driven introduction to the game to show something different than what we expected.

If the kid is worthy, then may he be worthy. Still better than a reboot.

quanchi112
They won't replace Kratos.

Kratos and his son will double suplex the midgard serpent hopefully. His son's legs will be too short to reach the floor tho, so it will be more symbolic than anything.

Not for me. Having watched a lot of Xena with the same idea of gods of every pantheon sharing the same world has me used to that.

Probably divine intervention from the other gods.

KingD19
There's been plenty of shows/games/comics where multiple pantheons exist all at once. In fact it's more rare for their to only be a single pantheon in a universe than it is multiple ones, unless the game is focused solely on that. Like Too Human focusing on Norse gods because you are a Norse God.

CosmicComet
Yes, and its always annoying when that happens, because then you have multiple origin stories that conflict with each other.

I mean, Helios is the Sun God. The Norse mythology has one of those too. Who could possibly take priority over the other if they exist in the same world?

Are there all of a sudden different *suns*? A Greek sun and a Norse sun? That would be extremely convoluted to explain.

My theory would have been so much better. When Kratos said 'there would only be chaos' in God of War 3, maybe it could have literally come to be. Chaos is the primordial which stands for life itself. (She is the red female primordial you see in Ascension's intro). Would have made more sense if Kratos inadvertently caused Chaos to come back into activity, and then she created new gods, re-shaping from the old ones, such that they eventually become what we know as the Norse pantheon.

yeah. but every myth has creator beings. in greek myth there are primordials. the norse creator beings should different too.

greek myth cosmology also is different to norse myth cosmology

CosmicComet
That's the point!

It's ****ing awkward to have different origins for the universe, the stars, the sun, the moon, the earth, the rain and clouds, life itself, etc all existing at the same time.

Would have been so much more elegant if the Primordials were the root cause of everything, including future patheons. Those pantheons can call the primordials something different, befitting their culture, but they'd still be the primordials.

dika123
are there primordial gods still exist after the fight that created universe ?

i think uranus, chaos, and ..... i forget the last primordial but i saw in ascension opening he punch the chaos.

water primordial is only being that got destroyed.

Meh. Kratos looks like Jeff Bridges in Iron Man 1 now. It's beyond stupid that they are tying him into multiple mythologies. If they really wanted to make a new God of War game set in Norse mythology, they REALLY should have just made a new protagonist. As it stands it's just dumb.

well developer can make kratos build his own empire.

that doesn't explain why they should change another character, same like mario, using every genre (sport, rpg, race) with mario. like i said using business perspective. if they change another character the game will not popular. no matter how good the game is.

Look, I understand that companies have taken big characters and worked them into different things that WORKED before; but this is just shoehorning and it doesn't work. I'm not remotely excited about this game. If it was a new character and a fresh take on the series I'd be pumped; as it stands Jeff "Kratos" Bridges isn't doing a damn thing for me.

I am interested in seeing how they try to justify this, but I'm thinking they probably won't.

"Kratos will sell better than a new character" is an artistically bankrupt reason to keep him for this new series. I'm hoping there's more to it than that.

CosmicComet
Cory thought Kratos' character arc was not complete.

That's the reason he gave.

He could have rebooted it with a new character that looks exactly like Kratos, similar to the way Link works, but chose to continue his story.

Cory says you are training Kratos' son and that in future games you may not play as Kratos at all.

Jeff Bridges is awesome, and Kratos' badass goatee has become a badass beard, so I am not sure that I follow you here?
Besides, had they gone with a new character, that change, on top of all of the other changes that they are implementing, would likely have seen an immense amount of backlash. Though it is Santa Monica and not Ninja Theory in charge of GoW, there is a reason that almost every DMC fan hates Donte.

Before you even see the entire game, and where they take Kratos in that game, you are going to write it off as shoe-horning?

Also, you do realize that for every person who is not pumped up for this iteration of God of War, there are at least 50-100 who are, with some people (like me) who are interested in seeing this new direction for Kratos?

Yeah, I know there is backlash to Kratos, but I have seen more positive reception to bearded Kratos than negative, and imo, it is nothing compared to the backlash that would have occurred if there was a new person in this God of War game.

Eh, it is not like Santa Monica followed Greek mythology closely; they took quite a few liberties, and characters being tied to multiple settings/universes/mythologies has been happening for a long time.

The game is changing, and imo, it is better that they are using Kratos and evolving him, instead of bringing in somebody entirely new that could end up turning away long-time fans of the series (on top of all of the other changes). Besides, it seems like Kratos could ultimately end up being a stepping stone for his kid/a new character after this game.

Should be easy enough to find.

I guess they needed Kratos back for one more game to neatly move on with his successor, and get you rooting for the guy set to take his place. (his son it would appear).

Think I saw it. Sounds like he could be getting replaced, but it might be up to the next game's director.

What would be interesting is if GoW4 is a setup for Kratos to die in the end and his son is the one going around avenging him in future sequels.

Yeah, there are multiple elements that are similar across many mythologies.

Will play for everything else. (Would still kill for a proper Ninja Gaiden successor though..)
