Luke pressed and got a hit through the guard of Vader, who commented in the novel that Luke was the most powerful Jedi he'd ever met.

Bane gets his sh*t kicked in by Kas'im because he uses an "unfamiliar form". Even in RoT he struggles against mercenaries and assassins.
