John Byrne gave us a very alien, sterile Krypton, with inhabitants that were implied to be hairless going by lack of eyelashes/brows, and the reaction of Supes' mom upon seeing an earthling.

Did the Kents opening his matrix chamber somehow alter Superman's DNA? He obviously looked more human. Bulkier, with body/facial hair.

Krypton's been revamped many times since then, but was that version of Supes mutated to a small degree?

It's possible for some reason the Kryptonians shaved off body hair. I dunno..I guess to fit the whole cold/sterile motif?

Yeah, lets go with that.

No elaborate explanation required.

That was simply the first time Ma Supes ever saw a real man with his shirt off.

Gotta love Superfans and their ability to discuss anything outside benching the earth for five days.

Well, that was pleasant...

Superman isn't a mutant because if he was raised on Krypton he would be an average person. He only gets powers from being raised in Earth's yellow sun system.

He's clearly much stronger then your average Kryptonian, looking at the New Krypton series. And DC policy has stated for years that Daxamite > Kryptonian. Superman being = to most Daxamites shows he's a particularly powerful example of his species.
