Prior to his confrontation with Dooku, had Yoda ever dueled a Sith? I was under the impression he never had, but is this true?

He has never been shown to and I find it doubtful he did.

No, he hadn't. Dooku was the first.

Depends on your definition of a sith. He killed a Dark Jedi before who was so powerful his death left a DS nexus on Dagobah.
