Nah, either of them is solidly above Ganner in dueling, and, despite this fight with many circumstance-which I must reread-, Ben has usually better feats than Valin.

But how on Earth have 2 and 3 an chance?

Though Valin fought them both off, so depending on your interpretation of that feat they could stop at 4
