First, I will elaborate the components of American Economy.

American Economy has following key components:-

1. Consumer spending
2. Government spending
3. Business/Industry spending
4. Net Exports

All of the above are measured in GDP. Now, some observations:

1. Consumer spending represents the largest component of American Economy in modern times. Above 60% of GDP on average.

2. American Net Exports are in deficit since 1972. Reason is that American Imports > American Exports. This deficit negatively impacts GDP growth and is also contributing to National Debt. If the trend is not reversed, this will translate into an emerging crises.

So what Americans need to do?

1. Stimulate Consumer spending. In order to do so, create job opportunities for the locals.

2. Make American Net Exports surplus. In order to do so, revive American Manufacturing Industry.

Figure it out homies.

There is no permanent solution to fixing the economy- globalization and soon, automation, are the death knell of all service-based economies.

In the long term, the "work force" is going to comprise of a small and specialized group of engineers and scientists, whose duty will essentially be maintaining the automated workforce. Everyone else will either live off of a guaranteed universal income (essentially, welfare) or starve.

In the short term, more and more jobs will slowly be lost to exploited third-worlders and robots while our idiot polticians continue to spout memes about the free market and boot-straps.
