Love'd hearing the people party in Little Havana Florida.

90 years old. Hell of a run.
Never had strong feelings about him one way or another, but i know a lot of people are celebrating right now.

Nephthys
Shit. Another victim for 2016. I wonder if this'll effect anything. He was already retired, right?

riv6672
As far as -i- know, yeah.

Surtur
His bro has been in charge. And yep the bro is 85 himself.

riv6672
Thats a long lived family.

Lol dude..that's not a great scale to measure a person on their terrible-ness.

Which make no mistake, Fidel Castro was a horrible person.

riv6672
Thats a great scale, actually, but i didnt expect anyone to agree.

Okay, but no seriously he was a horrible person.

riv6672
^^^Yes he was

Flyattractor
OMG...Did my and Riv's thread get merged?

Talk about an uncomfortable yet thankfully silent situation...

Oh well... Ding Dong The Wicked Castro's Dead!

It just feels like putting a fire out..but only after it has completely consumed everything you own.

^^^There's never enough time to do things right, but always enough time to do things twice.

Lord Lucien
Did you guys hear that Castro's stepping down and handing power over to his brother, Dennis?

Flyattractor
You mean Old Dennis the Dictator?

Yeah I be that will work out well.

Surtur
What the f*ck is up with what the Canadian PM said about Castro? He called him a "remarkable leader". What the hell is going on in Canada?

Lord Lucien

Surtur
So he was being honest when he called Fidel a remarkable leader?

riv6672
Wouldnt surprise me. A lot of people thought he was.

Surtur
I bet none of them were gay.

riv6672
Ok.

But not something that is recommended for the common citizen in Cuba.

Little Justin is second generation cucked. He is probably Fidel's kid.

Flyattractor
Yes I am sure Fidel made lots of little Rape Babies.

Henry_Pym
With the amount of time his mother spent in Cuba I doubt it wasn't consensual

Surtur
People just keep saying how charismatic he was, how humorous he was lol. Geraldo literally says this.

I'm not saying Castro wasn't charismatic, I'm sure for a dictator he was. It's just..it's almost like going "Hitler died today, he was a charismatic man who loved dogs and his country".

"I guess you could say he had failed policies" is also what Geraldo said. Hmmm.

Surtur

Okay Geraldo says Castro embodied a sense of equality.

Just wow lol.

Yes. There are MANY fans of these things.

And they are called Liberals/Leftists/Progressives/Socialists/Etc...

Surtur
He deserves a "Dictator of the century" award. I hear he was very kind to all the people who dared not oppose him even a tiny bit. Surely that counts for something.

Yes I know. But it would be a weird thing to say upon his death.

Ted Bundy: a real ladies man, always willing to give a lady a helping hand.

Osama Bin Laden: Loving father and aeronautics enthusiast.

Bundy was a ladies man. Chicks were saying they wanted to bang him even as he was on trial for..(wait for it) brutally murdering women lol. 247 feminists died worldwide from their heads exploding, it was awful riv, just awful.

But of course you could find any neutral thing about someone to comment on, was the point. It's just strange when people do it for brutal murderous dictators.

riv6672

There was no snag lol. The fact you feel there was is hilarious.

There isn't anything to deflect from. You didn't come in and make some grand point.

Surely I missed one of your posts then. Your "no it isn't" response wasn't a snag. Your "those aren't as true as the things for Hitler" certainly wasn't a snag.

The Trudeau and Castro families have a long history of friendship, Canada has had normal relations with Cuba for several decades, and though we are a capitalist democracy we have lots of socialist strains in our system, and isn't considered the great boogeyman most Americans seem to think it to be. That's what's going on up here.

Canada and the European Union became Cuba's biggest trading partners after the collapse of the Soviet Union, and it's been fascinating to vacation there with virtually no Americans in sight. stick out tongue

Surtur
Your country might have had normal relations with him, but you have to admit he is a monster. Or was.

I knew about Trudeau's connection to the family, but you'd think he would say that in private to them or something, not make a statement like that for everyone to see.

riv6672
I knew the first part, and always find the second part to be a neat experience, at least in the short term.

Castro was one of the few dictators to get as much admiration as criticism (Marshal Tito was probably another.) We all know before the revolution that Cuba was America's whorehouse, exploited by gangsters and corporations like United Fruit Company. After the revolution Castro's appeal for aid was spurned by the White House, which was why he turned to the Soviet Union instead. Who knows what Cuba could have become without several decades of US economic blockades and hundreds of attempts to assassinate Castro by the CIA, making him draw the security net around the island tighter and tighter. (On a tour group in Havana in 2007, I was told Castro never slept in the same place two night in a row, for security purposes.) Cuba has drawbacks as a system, but the people are better off than pre-1959, just being able to participate in shaping their country.

What I can say about Fidel is, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, he should have followed China's lead in developing some market reforms. But he was hardened by the decades long standoff with the USA, and wanted them to come to the table first.

Robtard

Flyattractor
Yeah. He wanted to exploit it himself.

meep-meep
Castro was a polarizing political figure for decades. As far as dictators go, he wasn't the worst. He was a dictator though. He held back Cubans for a long time, for the illusion of solidarity. He was a selfish piece of work.

riv6672
^^^Nicely put.

Surtur
Though to be fair..our government also did royally f*ck up Cuba via some of the shit we did when Batista was in charge.

Basically we kind of primed it for Castro to come in, not intentionally of course. Which seems to..be a thing we keep repeating throughout history.
