This is a repost of some previous posts similar to this.
The Empire cannot use the Star Destroyer Weapons in orbital strikes; only self-defense. It may use up to 4 at a time. If this is the case, USA wins.
First, Air Superiority. The USAF uses F-16's the most, which has a high top speed of 1498 mph. The Empire's favorite craft, the TIE/LN, moves only at 1200 mph. Not to mention that at full burner, F-16's can reach top speeds up to 1525 mph (Mach 2)! And that is only one engine. The TIE's twin ion drive is less powerful in comparison. Now, F-16's also have a wider range of weapons like the AIM-120 AMRAAM with a range of >100 miles, AIM-7 Sparrow with a range of 31 miles, and the AIM-9 Sidewinder with a range of up to 22 miles. Compared to the TIE with twin lasers with a range of only 1.5 miles. The only areas where the TIE trumps is the operational range (infinite) and maneuverability.
Next, Landing forces. This is pretty much going to be weakened by Patriot SAM's (50 mile range) and air superiority jets. Of the 20 that may be sent, only 1-2 may make it undamaged and an extra 9 damaged. Even when they land, they will be under immediate fire by M1A2 Abrams MBT's and several other vehicles. Stormtrooper armour isn't that good in bullet-proofing as the US Army's. At least 2-3 well-placed shots on the helmet will break the visor and kill the trooper. AT-ST's are lightly armoured so the Abrams may just simply wreck it. Air support is unlikely.
Lastly, Formation. As mentioned by previous users from observation, Stormtroopers operate in big groups consisting of at least 50 troopers. American units operate in small squads or platoons which give it an advantage. Grouped units are more susceptible to artillery fire from M270 MLRS, for example. Well placed units also can take out chunks of the Stormtrooper army quickly with HMG's. Stormtroopers also rarely break formation.
Don't even think TIE's can dent the USAF. TIE's don't have RWR's, IRST's, and all-round visual range capability. Not to mention it literally has paper-thin armor. A simple .50 cal will destroy it. May I also ask if TIE's have the equivalent of afterburners?
So yeah, US wins hands-down. NOTE: This is based on opinion and although there are facts, there is no way we can predict the outcome.
TD; DR US trumps, Empire white-flags.
