Creed tried that, Logan survived X-Men Classics, pre-hf upgrade.

Daken tried it just before his death; he was pissing himself.

It's always unpleasant, but as soon as he gets out of the water he should be fine.

Creed literally tore Logan's throat out and threw him into the river and it didn't work.

In the end, it depends on the writer.

In Enemy of the State, Sue opened up forcefields in Wolverine's lungs, and he was basically incapacitated.

Yeah, count me in with those that think Vader alone would beat Wolverine (but it would be a heck of a fight).
