The series will explore the experiences of five U.S. film directors (John Ford, William Wyler, John Huston, Frank Capra, and George Stevens) and their frontline work during the Second World War. The three-part series will draw on over 100 hours of archival footage, and will be narrated by Meryl Streep. Steven Spielberg, Francis Ford Coppola, Guillermo del Toro, Paul Greengrass, and Lawrence Kasdan will all discuss the impact and legacies of the five aforementioned directors.

I have just finished the first episode so far, it is quite good.

Did not know that about these five directors. Sounds interesting, Surt.

Yeah, and these guys could have stayed in this country and continued to make films during the war if they truly wanted to. But they decided to put their careers and lives on the line.

One of the directors was Jewish, and in order to get certain shots he was willing to fly over German territory..knowing what horrible fate would befall him if they were shot down and captured. To which indeed..his plane was nearly shot down, and a plane carrying some of his crew wasn't so lucky and was shot down and everybody died.

The interesting thing is netflix actually has a BUNCH of the documentaries mentioned in the series that these men made during the war. Like "The Battle of Midway".
