Reading a book called Ring of Hell, by a guy that used to visit a few wrestling boards I used to visit (Went by Johnthebaptist most places. Total liberal.)

The book is a good read, about Benoit's path to destruction, the seedier part of the wrestling industry, and some generalized societal corruption (He makes one point that Japan's elections are rigged with a second party that's firmly controlled/manipulated and funded by the primary party.)

Anyways, at one point in the book. he mentions how Vince's father, and later Vince himself could be seen going to an area while holding a fat envelope. The implacation is that they're paying off gangsters to do business..

So that got me thinking about how often you hear about someone accuses of "mob ties". Pretty much everyone at some point gets accused of it.. Trump is one notable example. Kennedy supposedly had known ties.. Many celebrities get accused of it.

Is that just how it is? If you've "made it", e.g. rich, famous, successful in something, you're either working with seedy people at some point, or at least being strongarmed to pay tribute, "or else?"

Is it possible to become part of the "top tier" of anything without moral compromises?

Depends on if their businesses were partly built on unionised labour back when the mob had a foothold on them. Can't see finance or tech billionaires requiring to deal much in that regard. Construction, manufacturing and shipping more so though.

Well put.
Finance & tech billionaires deal with different types of criminals.
